Mixed CCG & Video Games systems

edited October 2006 in Video Games
Looks like there is a new genre of arcade system in Japan mixing CCG with Video Games. A friend of mine returning from Japan saw two huge different game rooms dedicated to this. The console feature a sensitive tablet on which players can place and move their CCG cards which has an immediate effect on the video gameplay, both on an individual screen, and a huge battle/world overview screen projected for all players. The console seems also to have 2 slots, which makes me wonder if the cards must be scaned prior to their positioning on the tablet.

Here is 2 sites about 2 different games. One is based on a chinese-medieval theme, the other based on a sci-fi battle-tech robot theme.

I have done some research on the net but did not find much which was not in japanese. If you have seen this system, or better, have first-hand experience of playing it... I would be very curious to learn more about this stuff.

  • I have seen advertisements for an X Men fighting game that you had a disc for, it seemed, and then scanned cards for more characters or stronger ones...the game looked like a very generic 2D fighter and it was a sort of plug n' play type independant console, so I guess it's coming here too

I saw that too. With a little revamping, it could be geared towards the older crowds easily. It would interest me if they made the fighting interface better.
