  • I guess this would be a good spot to make my first post.

Hello out there. My name is Danny, but here on the internet, I tend to go by Kazuo, which is just my middle name, but it was better than anything else that I could come up with. I'm not going to say how old I am, but can legally smoke, but not legally drink. Think between those ages. I will tell you I live in California. So, if any of you are on the west coast and see someone who is between the ages 18 and 21, who is also named Danny Kazuo something, it might be me.

I found GeekNights when I was looking for good anime podcasts, because only one of my friends likes anime and keeps trying to get me to watch Naruto and other garbage shows. I already suffered through Dragonball Z, back when I had nothing better to do when it was on TV, so I don't need to experience sitting through twenty shows to get through one fight again... I listened to the "Getting into Anime" show and now I might have to make some of my friends to watch Cowboy Bebop.

Anyways, I not only enjoy the anime podcasts, I subscribe to all the nights. I've started playing videogames with the NES, because my mom actually played, which was fun growing up, but it started to get annoying when she started constantly nagging me to beat her at Bust a Move on the SNES for the millionth time. I also like computers and am actually working to be a Computer Science major, and thinking about minoring in Music or Japanese just for the hell of it. The only thing I'm not into that gets talked about on GeekNights are the German board games and D&D. I would probably enjoy them though, so I might have to go buy Settlers of Catan for XBLA when I get my Red Ring of Death problem taken care of... I'm hopping I get it fixed before Halo 3....
  • Hello forums,

I'm Chris and I hail from the gaping hell spawn of South Jersey just outside Philadelphia. I'm 21 and in college, unfortunately I'm a terrible slacker and have become quite behind as far as a major is concerned in fact I don't technically have one. I've been leaning towards majoring in Information Technology for a while I just haven't gotten around to speaking to an adviser to find out exactly which program I should sign up for. I work two jobs, CVS Pharmacy and Gamestop so when I can manage to find some free time I watch me some anime or spend way to many hours playing video games.

My favorite anime I guess would be Kenshin. It's more for sentimental reasons then anything else, it was the first non-americanized anime I saw, granted I did enjoy it even if the last arc wasn't to good. My runner up would be Utena. and the last thing I've got to say is I work at Katsucon in the game room.
  • Hello forums,

I work at Katsucon in the game room.

  • Ahoy, my name is Surabhi. I just registered about 2 minutes ago.
I am a lurker. So, this probably one of the few posts I'll make. I guess it's because I'm shy.. or something silly.

I am 15 years old and a sophomore in high school. In a special program at school for "gifted" math and science students.
People have pointed out, numerous times I am an introvert. But I like to think of it as extremely shy and uncomfortable around people.

My favorite anime is Death Note, Ouran High School Host Club and Full Metal Alchemist. Edward Elric and Light are love!
My favorite day of Geek Nights is Thursday!
  • Hello. I am Phil. I am 29 years old, and I live in the western suburbs of Philadelphia. I found Geeknights through Dave and Joel's Fast Karate for the Gentleman.

I hate almost all anime, but I'm trying to change. Although, I do like Cowboy Bebop and all but the last episode of Gundam: 08th MS Team, and depending on the day you catch me, Akira is my favorite movie. I am more of a comic book and rpg geek (and a recovering ccg geek to boot). Y: the Last Man, Powers, and Fables are my comics of choice.

    I hate almost all anime.
Most anime, just like most comics, most movies, most videogames, most novels, and so forth, are worth hating.  Like any medium, you have to dig a little to find the gems.  Ignore most of what the Internet will tell you about what is good.  Watch Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, then the Ghost in the Shell movies.  If you enjoyed Cowboy Bebop, and you like speculative fiction and/or action at all, you'll probably enjoy it quite a bit.
Seriously, though.  Ignore almost all Internet recommendations.  I can't stress this enough. Most people will try to foist their favourite shows on you, instead of considering what you might actually like based on other things that you've enjoyed.

I'll do that - excepting the one you just gave me.

I have seen Ghost in the Shell (the movie) as well as a bit of Stand Alone Complex and enjoyed both, but not quite enough to go out and buy them. I ought to give them a second go.
  • but not quite enough to go out and buy them.
    Netflix. ^_~
  • but not quite enough to go out and buy them.

    Netflix. ^_~

Coincidentally, they're already in my Blockbuster queue.
  • Hello everyone, I'm Trevor, but you can just call me Diddgery, or maybe Revor if you want to do that as well. I'm sixteen and also from the middle of the United States, but who cares about that? ..Well, actually, I suppose people might care about my AGE, but I'm certainly not a "punk kid." Sure, I haven't graduated from high school, but I feel like I'm at least somewhat intelligent.

So, let's see, interests that people might be able to relate to. I like video games, board games, role-playing games, anime, manga, comics... oh wait, that's what GeekNights is all about. Ah, well. When it comes to anime, my favorites are probably Cowboy Bebop, Detective Conan, and I guess One Piece. I know, it's not a great list; I've really only seen anime when it comes on [adult swim] or Toonami, and when it comes to One Piece I actually watch the fansubs for that. But don't judge me just by that! I'm still sort of a budding anime fan, so I haven't seen a whole lot of anime.

When it comes to vidja games, I like some Zelda, some Kirby, some Mario, some Final Fantasy, some Dragon Quest, all Katamari Damacy, all Phoenix Wright, the only Shadow of the Colossus.. I think I'll stop there. The key word "some" might be important, it might not be, I don't know. All I'm going to say is that Twilight Princess didn't live up to my expectations, Final Fantasy XII didn't live up to my expectations, and that there hasn't been a new Kirby game that was good since maybe the SNES games.

When it comes to role-playing, again, I'm kind of budding. I've done some role-playing online (mainly because I rarely get an occasion to do it with my friends, and I just don't have enough friends to have an awesome game), but I'm going to try playing Pokethulhu and Paranoia sometime in the near future with my friends. Yeah, I totally did listen to that "Silly Tabletop RPGs" episode.

The rest are probably not important. I think the last thing I'll throw in is that I also listen to Dave and Joel's Fast Karate for the Gentlemen, partly because it was recommended on GeekNights, partly because my friend said that I should listen to it (this friend was the same friend who first found GeekNights, so I'm sure he listened to the recommendation as well).
  • Hi, I'm Davis from Minneapolis, MN. I'm a Quality Assurance Lead Auditor and Engineer for a large Aerospace company. I came here to mainly talk about anime and technology. I play video games but I don't like most RPGs and FPS's (sorry Halo 3 fans). My favorite anime of all time will still have to be Cowboy Bebop.

I've been listening to Geeknights, along with AWO, Ninja Consultants, Dave & Joel, and, yes, Anime Pulse. Ever since Geeknights had that "Podcasts that suck" special, they have improved their format a lot. There's still a lot of gibberish and stuff going on but at least it's much easier to listen to. I also listen to CNet's Buzz Out Loud.

    Nice meeting you all.
  • Hello, I'm Konstantin from Germany. There are many things I'm interested in, right now, I spend most of my free time either trying to get Debian to do what I want to or doing Taekwondo and Judo. I'm 18 years old, finished school this year. After school, I joined the military. (For those of you who don't know: you have to do 9 months of military service in Germany. Except if you become a consciousness objector) I got bored there, so I left again and now, I'm doing civil service (which you have to do instead of the military service).

I refuse to have a "favourite anime", because the quality of these kinds of things isn't one-dimensional and thus and not really measurable. I really enjoyed NHK ni youkoso, Scrapped Princess, Trigun and Gungrave, to give a few examples.

Oh, and I also occasionally play the violin/viola, but I've been neglecting that lately.

After I'm done with my service, I'm planning on studying physics. Or gamedesign, but I can't really afford that. Well, no need to decide for anything right now.

  • Hi, my name is Jason. I live in in Orlando Fla. I have been listening to the podcast for a while. I joined the forums yesterday so that I could submit stuff for the upcoming Q&A episode. I am not much of a geek but I mess around with computers in my free time as a hobby. I am not really interested in anime, but I do like a good sci-fi novel or film though I haven't come across much of either in a while.

    Anyway, Hello.

    Hello all,
My name is Matt, I currently attend Chapman University in Orange, California (Right Near Disneyland). My regular home is San Jose, California. I am currently 18 years old and have just completed listening to the archives of GeekNights (pat on the back) and it is about 1000x awesome. I love movies, but animated movies (Disney or Anime), curiously I like the computer movies, maybe I just like the 3D look. My very favorite movie right now has to be the original Die Hard. My favorite TV shows are Extras (too bad that's done), The Office (American Version), 30 Rock, Studio 60 (also too bad it's done), Lost, Seinfeld, and the Simpsons. I am moderately interested in computers, but not gaming (except Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and Half Life (all)), I have never played a German board game, so, yeah.

    That me.
    Bye

    I AM NOT A NUMBER!

Yeah it is one of my favorite shows, old or new. I don't own any episodes but I can get them from my public library for free. Who would of thought.

  • Hi everyone! I'm Matt. I've been gaming since before I can remember, playing Contra on the NES, which most people can't believe, since I only turn 19 this year! I'm kinda into anime (not crazy, but I know the good from the bad) and also kinda into computers.

I have an Xbox 360 (Judge Chief on Xbox Live), PStwo, Wii, DS Lite, and PSP. (My PSP is hacked if anyone wants some help with that...)

I'm not really sure of what to say, but I guess I'm cool. You be the judge.

Hi, my name is Joe and I joined the forums about two days ago. I've been listening to the podcast for a few months.

I grew up in Michigan, but I live in California now. I just got married in May.

  • Hi all, my name is Frank and I'm a Tech Support Specialist currently residing in the middle of nowhere in Illinois (or BFE, as we like to call it around here).

I was born in 1975, and I'm betting that puts me slightly to the right in the standard deviation of age plots around here. I have dual degrees in Biology and IT-Network Administration, but unfortunately neither one is a BS. I'm working on rectifying that. With any luck, that'll let me get my happy tail a better job and out of BFE. It's a tough area of the 'states to live in and fully enjoy your geekdom.

My geekdom mainly lies in computer gaming, and for that I blame my father and his obsession with the VIC-20 and C64. I also blame him for my love of Sci-Fi and Fantasy; the parents took me to see Star Wars at the drive-in when I was two, and I was hooked. I previously was into the Underwear Pervert comics, but I haven't really read any of those on a regular basis since 2000. I've been leaning more towards the Manga and Anime ends of the spectrum lately and have been dabbling a bit in both pools.

I'm not married, but I am dating. I used to play the trombone, but I haven't touched that since the end of high school. I spend way too much time on the internet for my own good, but I don't spend nearly the amount of time on it as I used to. I actually realize that there is a "big blue room" that's called "outside", and occasionally I take walks in it!

Hey guys, Classic here. Basics are as follows. Born 8.19.87 and raised in Queens, NY. Been a geek since I fell in love with Super Mario World on the SNES. It was all downhill from there.

I progressed to loving Batman through the animated series and believing that I could make anything given enough Legos to work with. My first anime was DBZ at age 12. Adult Swim introduced me to quality anime in the form of Cowboy Bebop, Trigun and the orginal Gundam. Aside from that, I stayed mostly a gamer geek until my senior year in high school where the impending adulthood caused me to regress to the mind of a child. I took up comics and cartoons wit a passion yet again. Samurai Jack continues to be one of my favorite cartoons of all time.

I went to Berkeley College in the city for a year and change, taking Business Administration, and eventually deciding that it wasn't the right career path for me. I'm currently a college dropout working part time at Blockbuster [Christ, I hate my job . . .] until I can get some kind of computer/tech office job.

I've been listening to GeekNights for a few months now but just now decided to join the forums because listening to the podcast got me through an overnight shift pulling inventory. I had all of questions week on my ipod and a few other episodes and I somehow managed to survive working from 12 AM to 8 AM. I figure participating in the forums would be the least I could do to show Rym and Scott some gratitude, so here I am.

  • Hey y'all, I'm Mike. I'm 23, have a B.A., and work as a barista just outside the Crossroads of America (Indianapolis). When I'm not making coffee, I spend my time watching anime, running, camping, climbing, listening to podcasts, watching movies and reading books, and working on various creative projects.

I got into anime through a Cowboy Bebop marathon in '03, and that's still one of my favorites along with Darker Than Black. I also love fantasy and science fiction - Orson Scott Card is one of my heroes. I've got a PS2, a Powerbook, and I'm trying to figure out how to get Ubuntu going on an old laptop. Generally I consider myself a jack of all trades, master of none, and that pretty much holds true for my geekeries, too.
  • My name is Georgette and I'm a 16 year old high school senior. I was born on November 17th in NY Queens and have lived there all my life. I have a part time job at an entertainment company. Despite the fact that I'm in a school for law I would like to go to school to study mortuary science to make a career out of it. I'm not really into technology. I mean I'll use a computer and use a few programs but when it comes to learning about how my computer works I get bored. I only listen to wednesday and thursday night feeds but when something sounds interesting I'll listen to the other two days shows.

Like a lot of others my age the first anime I fell for was Pokemon. I'm a little ashamed to admit it but I was one of those people who ran to the store to pick up a new pack of cards after school and spent her Saturday's at the Pokemon league that Toys'r'us hosted, battling and trading cards with other ten year olds. I've upgraded to more quality stuff now. Some of my favorite shows are Trigun, Hokuto no Ken, Fullmetal Alchemist and Genshiken. I actually don't watch as much anime as I'd like to but since I'm only a student with limited funds I have to watch what comes my way.

I don't really call myself a gamer but I do play a few for various systems. My favorites are Fable for the xbox, Resident Evil Zero for gamecube, and pretty much any Dance Dance Revolution game(or any variation of 'dance dance' as I like to call it).

I spend a lot of my time these days reading manga and listening to podcasts, mostly GeekNights and Anime World Order. When I first made a playlist on my ipod for GeekNights I made a spelling error and called it Geek Knights but decided I liked it and left it. I wanted to join the forum so that I wouldnt be so left out of all the inside jokes and good stuff.
  • Animated avatars?
    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
  • Genshiken. Fable for the xbox
    *thumbs up*

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
My avatar is supposed to be animated. The metroid is supposed to bob up and down in space.

Well, I guess after 8 or so months I think a proper introduction is in order ^^

My name is Stefan Preiml and I live in south Austria where I was born and raised and currently attend the University of Klagenfurt and am on my way to a bachelors degree in informatics. I am currently 21 years old and call both a Wii and an XBox 360 my own. I also used to play Magic: the Gathering but due to World of Warcraft (both the PC and card game) eating up the existing community and Yu-Gi-Oh taking up pretty much all younger players who are interested in card games, the local Magic scene is on the brink of collapse as the rest of the regular players are about to finish high school and move on to universities across the country.

I enjoy pretty much any form of entertainment that is produced by drawing something on a piece of paper, but in recent years my preferences have shifted more and more to eastern media in this regard. This can be easily observed by the somewhat extensive collection of Manga I call my own, and although the expensive nature of Anime has prohibited me from accumulating anything impressive, I think I have a good selection I was able to gather up. I also still keep safe my childhood comic books of Lucky Luke and Asterix that I believe to have founded my interest in this sort of medium.

Some other things that I would like to mention is that I am probably the only person in my circle of friends that prefers the English language track of any movie or television series as long as it is the original. This is probably due to me consuming more English than German in a day thanks to the internet. I also already had the same surgery on both knees by the time I was 18 thanks to a deficiency I was born with and have a port-wine stain on my upper lip I barely even recognize in a mirror anymore. I also believe myself to be a moderate individualist as I highly value freedom of speech and thought, personal decision making and oppose any kind of peer pressure.

  • Hello everyone,

My name is Tyler. I am a sixteen year old student from Minnesota. I am geeky for almost anything with a large enough level of complexity for me to study, and this is most likely caused by my main geekery; science. I spend most of my time trying to learn as much as I can, at the expense of my actual schoolwork, and enjoy a good logical and analytical discussion.

I am the only real geek in my family, and am surrounded by mild luddites in my home life. I tend to annoy my family with my enthusiasm for sharing knowledge (even though they would be better off if they knew it.) Despite my relatively unplugged home life, I attend an incredibly geeky school of about 300, where I can enjoy the presence of other people who find physics interesting.
