Thursday Show Ideas

edited December 2006 in Suggestions
Easy Thursday show idea: "political" talk shows and why they suck or maybe: how not to suck at doing a political talk show.

More ideas: "How not to suck at being a criminal", "How not to suck at being a criminal defendant", "How not to suck as a U.S. Supreme Court Justice", "How not to suck at being a zombie", "How not to suck at driving", "How not to suck at being involved in a motor vehicle accident", "How not to suck at suing/being sued for being involved in a motor vehicle accident (or anything else)", "How not to suck at building/being an evil robot", "How to defeat a robot army", "Who would win in a fight: Hulk or Superman, Thor or Superman, Batman or Captain America, Rush Limbaugh or Randi Rhodes, Chuck Norris or Bruce Campbell, Max Baer or Nolan Bushnell (this can go on forever), "Mandatory Minimum Sentencing Guidelines", "How magazines were thick in the 70s (like Scientific American or Omni - whatever happened to Omni?) and they're really thin now, but in real dollars they probably cost more now", "The Commerce Clause", "How Catch-22 changed my life and why did all of Joe Heller's books suck after that?"

That's all I have time for now. Hope it helps.

Good idea for this Thursday: How James Brown changed my life/How Gerald Ford didn't affect me in any way whatsoever. How about: My Memories of Gerald Ford

    Somewhat of a list:

    Soul bands of the 80s
    Glam rock of the 70s
    Psychobilly bands of the 00s
Why there hasn't been any good pop music for 21 years
Why Zeppelin is Totally AWESOME/Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, and Howlin' Wolf influence on same
Who would win in a fight between Led Zeppelin and the Ramones?
    Lee/Kirby Fantastic Four
Steranko Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.
What to study in college to prepare for a career in S.H.I.E.L.D.
If you were President, would you have called Dept. of Homeland Security S.H.I.E.L.D. or could you have come up with a more awesome name?
How not to suck at typing
Differences between rank hierarchy in BSG, Star Trek and Star Wars (ex: why is Adama's XO a colonel?)
Who would win in a fight between Thundarr, Conan, Solomon Kane and John Carter?
    Meerschaum or Briar?

*Sarcasm* Oh wow, hmm... I'm just completely tapped of ideas for a Thursday show...*end Sarcasm*

Ehem... ZOMBIES! Cmon guys, is it really too much to ask? Its practically a cop-out. Hell, I'd even Skype into the show if you wanted to talk about zombies.

If you're so desperate, why don't you do it yourself?

Tried. Came out like a cheesy documentary without any video. It was a bit shit. Something like this needs the dynamics of another person.

Thursday Suggestion: The Origins of The Front Row Crew

Sonic, the origins of the FRC has already been done. Check the archives.

I, for one, suggest a show on "If our alien overlords really exist somewhere in the universe, this is what they are like...."

  • Wow, you guys are n00bs. This thread already exists. How could you possibly miss a sticky‽
  • Trog, there are two "http"s in that URL. And what's more, you linked to the "How Did You Find GeekNights" sticky. But I know which thread you mean. The "Show Reminders" thread. And that thread isn't for show suggestions. It's for when Scrym says something like "We should do a show on _______ someday".

But guys, if Rym and Scott needed Thursday show suggestions, then they would have asked for them.
  • I could be wrong, but I believe that Scrym has specifically asked for Thursday Show suggestions on at least one occasion.
  • They should do a show specifically for Geek-backs.
  • They should do a show specifically for Geek-backs.
There aren't enough geek-backs to do so.

    *hint*

Well, there are plenty of geekbacks technically... We've just either answered them all privately, in the forum, or obliquely.

What we really need to do is start re-answering things we cover in the forum for the multitudes of listeners who don't frequent them. ^_~

Hey, i've sent you a couple of Geek-Backs.
  • How about a Thursday show on games you are looking forward to buying in the coming year?

    That would be a Tuesday.

How about a show on all the things you purchased because you thought they were cool and neat but, after getting them you suffered from buyers remorse?

What I would really like (and please note that I'm not sure which day this would fall under and whether Scrym has talked about it before) is a show about spam. Why does it even exist? Is there enough response to justify a business model that relies on spam? Or is it sheer bloody-mindedness?

Spammers should die in a fire.

    Hmm...

    Ticket to Ride: Europe
    The Mac Mini
A calzone in the South Bronx a month ago
    A badge for Ohayo-con 2

That's pretty-much it. In fact, the calzone is the only one I actually regretted, and only because I was too polite to demand my money back from the man. All the rest I salvaged and was able to get at least -something- out of.

We tend to put a great deal of consideration into any substantial action we take, and as such are rarely disappointed. Still, we could do a show on how to avoid doing things you'll regret, and how to salvage bad situations. ^_^
  • Maybe you could do a show about NJ idiots: http://www.stuff.co.nz/stuff/3922941a4560.html

While I much more enjoy the original wording, I consider this to be a reasonable change.
  • How about: "The International Star Registry Scam"?
  • I'm still pushing for Lovecraft and Cthulhu. And zombies. What about a show on fighting games, eg. what you love/hate about them and which ones are the best/worst.
  • 80's tech and what about the 80's tech is appealing. Most of it wasn't as shiny as stuff is now, but it was spunky and had heart.

Time machines and what mischief you'd get up to if you had one.

DVD collections of suck TV shows: Who out there is buying Season One of "Too Close for Comfort"? and why isn't there a DVD collection of "The New Show"? Which season of SNL you'd buy if it was collected on DVD?
  • 1996...or 97.
  • How about: "The International Star Registry Scam"?
It's a scam? You mean when I payed $39.99 to have one of Uranus's moons named "Klingon" I was scammed?

They were good. In my opinion, Colin Quinn was the best news anchor. Those were his years weren't they? Or was that Norm McDonald?

I'd like the season in which Sigourney Weaver was on the premiere. I think this was '86 after the really bad year. It was the dawn of awesome with Dana Carvey, Phil Hartman, Dennis Miller, and Jan Hooks. Weaver did a musical number with Buster Poindexter in which they covered "Baby, It's Cold Outside" I would love to have a copy of that.

You were the patient in a radical scamoplasty.
  • What's next? Are you going to tell me all of the real estate I purchased on the moon is bogus too?
  • I think Rym and Scott should do a Thursday show about Porn. Eh? Or Unicorns.
  • What about talking about old movies such as "The Fly" from 1996. It was an awesome movie.
