Terran Trade Authority

edited January 2007 in Role Playing Games
I started finding these books in 1979. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terran_Trade_Authority . I have a pretty strong memory that there were more than are listed on the website. They would usually show up in bargain bins with a lot of other types of books. The best thing about them was that they were played completely straight. You could look from cover to cover and find very little evidence (aside from ISBN nos., LOC nos. and such) that they weren't what they claimed to be: actual future histories and inventories like Jane's Fighting Ships. Before the internet, such cool stuff was rare. About the closest thing I can think of is Barlowe's Guide to Extraterrestrials. Finding something like that in Owensboro, KY was even more rare by a large power of 10.

As can sometimes happen, I have a strongly associated memory of reading these books when songs like "After the Love is Gone", "Let's Stay Together", and "Special Lady" were playing on my little AM radio.

It looks like they've made an RPG out of it: http://www.bisbos.com/rocketscience/tta/books.html .

Anyone who likes SF should try to get a chance to see least one of these books. They were pretty cool.
