Anime > Sex

edited June 2007 in Anime
According to online web analysis portal Compete.com, in a blog article published in recent days on the website, it was documented that web browsers making use of the all-subject encompassing online encyclopedia Wikipedia apparently have as large, if not larger interest in Japanese animation as they do in human anatomy.

  • Looks like anime beat out a lot of things . . .

    Take that, pop culture!
  • I'm glad "General Research" squeezed out.

But what do you expect? People who use Wikipedia the most are people who use the internet the most.
  • Why would you need to read an article about sex? If you're that sex starved there are far better ways to get that content than Wikipedia. Drawing any kind of inference about the comparative values of sex and anime from this chart is kind of silly.

I wonder which category 4chan falls into...

  • Wiki is great for things like looking up the opening theme of a show or the real Japanese name if you're not sure, and it loads up pretty darn quick. Probably quicker than ANN, so it's an awesome quick reference.
  • Its a sad reflection on our sex education when people need to use wikipedia to read about sex. Although I did spend an interesting 45 minutes looking up fetishes.
  • Wow. Those percentages suck. For the sake of science, I had researchers check out what I search for on the interwubs:

  • I have a man-crush on Dave. "The Videogames" is priceless.

I think we need a 'Why people think GeekNights listeners are gay thread'.

    It was funny though

Glad to see I'm not the only fan of the shwarmas. However, I must say I prefer the falafels.
  • My graph would replace shwarmas with poutine. I still haven't gotten my fix since Rym mentioned it, and I'm getting the shakes.

It's actually "The Vidjagames", but your point is noted, and appreciated.

It's mostly an artifact of me liking meat in everything, I guess. I used to eat falafels at lunch all the time, but a few years back I got into a car accident as a direct result of the vegetarian dish, and I think that has subconsciously soured me to them.

Do tell, this story sounds quite interesting. Perhaps you could tell it on your next podcast?
  • It just says what person going on Wikipedia. Mine kind of person when comes to anime.
  • Ya know Dave from listening to your show I always kinda thought shwarmas and sex could basically fall into the same category with you.

There are some horrible fundamental problems with this sentence.
  • Mr. Period must be experiencing horrible visions right about now.
  • Replying to the original post:
Well its kind of expected that more people would look up anime than porn as wikipedia really isn't the place to go for that kind of thing. If Google or similar did such a thing then Id say porn would be in the majority.

Unfortunately, no. My parents listen to the podcast and there are some things they're better off not knowing... like how I used to drive their car without a license. Story's probably not as interesting as the abstract makes it sound... though my arms were covered in grease up to the elbow at one point.

See? Even THAT'S not nearly as interesting as the summary makes it sound.

Pretty unlikely. I mean, I like shwarmas and all, but come on.
  • I actually find myself using Wikipedia a huge amount at work when I need to look up something. Need to know which wire is which on a 1394 cable? The correct answer is linked from Wikipedia. Need to know what the heck a delta-sigma A/D converter is? Wikipedia tells me and gives me a link to all the math I need to prove the chip I'm using won't suffer from aliasing artifacts.
