Question about cache on chips

edited June 2007 in Technology
Probably a dumb question but on the L2 cache what is the number before the multiplier mean exactly? And on the L1 cache it's usually number + number?

So for example

L1 Cache: 128KB+128KB
L2 Cache: 2 x 1MB

edit: Is there a AMD quad-core chip that's out? My stepfather insist that one is out. The only info I can find is for a Quad FX deal which uses to 2 separate Dual Core chips instead of one unified deal like Intel's
