Strange Touchpad behavior

edited August 2007 in Technology
On my new laptop there is a touchpad for mousing around. My old laptop had the same thing. Rather than have a scroll wheel button this one tracks your finger on the right side and bottom for scrolling. I'm having some strange issues where the mouse just jumps to a corner of the screen for no apparent reason. Always top right or lower left. Does anyone have any idea why this might be going on?

  • Is the pad dirty at all? I know that on my laptop, if I get some gunk on it, or if I'm sweating, then my touchpad acts really funky.
  • Did it come with software to calibrate it?
  • Is there part of the pad that scrolls or does some other things? Maybe you're accidentially hitting that? Are there any controls under it that your palm may be brushing against? I know these are pretty simple things, but they may be the problem.
  • It's on my brand new laptop and it does have the two scroll lines on the side and bottom.
