So maybe I was wrong about WOW (at least a little)

  • Not my fault plugin is broken.
I beg to differ, or does Rym now also manage the website?
It's all me. Rym just does data entry. I do all the making it work.

I don't have time to modify Vanilla, fix bugs in it, or write addons for it. All I have time for is installing it, upgrading it, configuring it, and adding/removing add-ons. I've said it before. If you want it to be different, then you have to do that part of the work. I will only trust code on my server that has checked out.

The reason we are even in a mess is because we had so many customizations to the old forum that upgrading lost a lot of stuff, like polls. I'm not going to start doing all sorts of weird custom stuff to this one and bring the problem forward.

Again, I beg to differ. "Managing" generally means more than just installing an update.

I semi-disagree with that. I would infer that installing an update technically would fall under the definition of "managing" in this instance...but barely enough to make the word useful in this instance.

That being said, I don't mean the following to come off or sound like I'm being a Naggie Maggie. Would it be out of the realm for you guys (I speak of Scrym) to hire some people to manage the affairs relating to the forums or aspects of Geeknights that you simply cannot devote enough time to due to obstacles like your jobs, laziness, planning for conventions, etc? More likely than not, the potential outcome of this is that of more free time and assurance that everything is under control (that is if you hired people that are both skilled and trustworthy enough).

  • I doubt they want to spend the money on that.

What could possibly be a valid reason not to? Not that I care whether they want to or not, but I think its a sound idea considering how much they've complained about it every now and then.

  • Doesn't really work anymore, though, since it doesn't say who started the thread.

Okay first of all, how much they've complained of it every now and then? You just implied they complain about it a lot and then implied they only complain occasionally IN THE SAME SENTENCE. They don't complain about it much, and it's usually only when someone else brings it up.

Second, a valid reason not to? How about that it's their money, not yours? I'm sure as soon as we all start paying a fee to use the forums, that money will go toward hiring someone to manage it.

Seriously, you are asking them to put money they earned at their personal work into something that is primarily desired by other people. They don't care about it enough to make it worth putting money into, and it's a free service. You always have the option to not use it.

  • Okay. Those are all valid points that I cannot argue with and I admit that the discrepancy in my previous comment was tangled syntax on my part. It was, however, just a suggestion and I meant well with the best of intentions in mind.
  • Hmph...
  • Well the good news is the game still sucks.
  • This was maybe funny. Seven years ago.
  • I don't know about anyone else, but this year's april fools seemed really played out.

I am glad that it seems to have died down a lot. Let's hope the trend continues.
  • It's your age, not the "holiday". :-P
  • I've always thought April Fool's Day was lame-ass garbage perpetuated by hopelessly unfunny attention-starved troglodytes.

I've just become a lot less willing to suffer through it as I get older.
  • No, it definitely died down on the Internet. Far fewer webcomics did "artist swaps." Aggregator sites did little subtle jokes at best. Slashdot went full humor column and just posted articles from fake places obviously that were actually pretty funny.

Internet April Fools bullshit is way down this year I think.
  • Let us pray there is no resurgence.

    CURMUDGEON FORCE, ASSEMBLE!

Maybe it's the baldness. It gave me like +10 Old Man points, so now I have less patience for bullshit.

    Welcome to the club.
  • WoW: MOBA Freemium app
  • Guild Wars 2 had all the characters running around arms out making airplane noises.

    I don't play but that's pretty funny.
  • I had a great April Fools' Day and pranked all of my bosses. You guys are just not putting anything into it. Fuddyduddies!
  • Go to pornhub right now.

Aw, man! I was hoping they'd actually have some videos to go with the theme.

    They do!
  • Just remember everyone:

You're not fucking funny. Not now, and not ever. Just give up.
