Anime incest

edited June 2006 in Anime
No, not like that. Someone passed me this little .gif of a comparison between a scene in Cowboy Bebop: Knocking on Heaven's Door and one from an episode of Naruto.

The two match up perfectly.

It was mentioned that they could've both been referencing the same stock footage, but it's still humorous.

  • Wow... That's a thing of the day if I've ever seen one ^_^
  • Hoo dang, I'm on a roll here.
  • I have so much props for whoever found this out.
  • oh, I was hoping for some actual anime incest. :(
  • Well that's simple to find.

  • Notice, all Utena.
  • Oh, I hate Koi Kaze so much.
  • Koi Kaze is a beautifully executed anime.. if you could someone overlook the creepiness of the incest. I've also noticed those girls at CLAMP love to put incest in their manga (CardCaptors, X/1999, Angel Sanctuary)..

Well, to tell you the truth, the only way I can get beyond incest is, if it is a well written tragic drama such as Oedipus Rex. It is true that the anime is artistically well executed, but it is just too creepy. Maybe I am closed-minded, but I think it is not very cool for a guy in his later 20s to have sex with his 15 year old sister. But, this is a free country, so I guess anyone has the right to watch anything.

I also did not like Cardcaptor (granted that I have not watched all of it), and I have not seen neither X/1999 or Angel Sanctuary.

  • Incest is a taboo. (That's what makes it so sexy to some and repulsive to others)

A taboo is an arbitrary restriction on activity.

The only scientific reason to avoid incest is for fear of birth defects. However, the magnification of recessive genetic traits through incest works in both ways, and it takes many generations to truly bring out flaws. Still, it's hardly an advisable practice.

There are several ways to be disgusted by the concept: A) simple adoption of social norms--to fully espouse a societal expectation is to be more a member of that society, and humans have a strong need to fit in. B) By projecting it onto the self--most people, including myself, don't find the idea appealing when imagining themselves partaking in the practice. You're likely to cringe at the thought; that makes perfect sense. It's a good indication that you don't want to do it. C) By espousing a moralist concept. Certain religions bristle at the idea of incest. It is likely they do so to warn their followers off the practice; it is not advisable where childbirth is possible. This is the same concept as Judaism prohibiting the consumption of pork, because is can be unsafe to eat without modern refrigeration and other techniques. The air of righteousness and the desire to force the religious concept on other people is just what apparently happens to religious concepts after they've had some time to ferment.

In the end, incest, like all forms of sexual "deviation", is a private matter. I really wouldn't advise it for anyone in particular. I would also not advise anyone lose sleep over what anyone else does in the bedroom. I sure as hell oppose any and all laws that restrict sexual activity, even if childbirth is a possible result. Then again, I come from the libertarian nut perspective, wherein I do not believe children deserve or need any protections not afforded to all people.

More on topic, incest in anime is used for a few simple reasons; its taboo nature makes it highly titillating, and also exotic, and it does not require nudity or other potentially objectionable material in order to convey.
  • I'd just pass it off as the Japanese being weird and repressed.
  • Yeah, that works too.

All people have traits, and everybody is equal, etc. etc...but some traits are maladaptive, even when common to an entire people. That being said, the situation in Japan has led to a negative population growth rate. The men work themselves to the bone, ignore their wives, and turn to increasingly unrealistic and extreme pornography to satisfy their natural urges. Meanwhile, the poor women are left to fend for themselves. Overemulation of western ideals has led asian women to extreme cosmetics and plastic surgery in a vain attempt to keep up with the digitally-enhanced images of our media. Some of the most beautiful and intelligent women in the world are being passed up for anatomically-impossible animated girls in taboo and/or outright illegal sexual situations.

I can only hope the trend of the young to treat work less like obligation to the daimyo and more like work will lead to healthier families and relationships. We Americans could learn a lesson or two from the hyper-advanced asian metropolises.

Wait. You are saying that the reason Japan has negative population growth because its men are too busy working and watching anime porn to have sex with real women?

    DUDE, WHAT IN THE FUCK.

There is a trend of negative population growth in post-industrial countries all around the world right now. This phenomenon is called the demographic transition, and you should take some time to read about it before you spew off ignorant and heavily ethnocentric explanations like the one you just did. Did you ever stop to think that lowered birth rates might come from the high cost of raising children, or from women being educated and having more access to birth control, and not that Japanese men would rather whack off to a TV/computer screen than their real-life female counterparts?
All people have traits, and everybody is equal, etc. etc...but some traits are maladaptive, even when common to an entire people.
Okay. I don't know where to begin with this. How are you using the word "trait?" Are you implying that these problems come from Japanese people's biology? Because that would mean you're calling the entire Japanese people maladaptive, and that smacks of racism and and a perversion of Darwinian evolutionary thought.

Let's assume I'm reading that incorrectly, and by "traits" you mean "behaviors." I will concede the point that every society enculturates people with behaviors that cause problems. However, you seem to be implying that a lowered birthrate is wrong or unnatural, or that Japanese men are deviants, or are totally fucking messed in the head. Again, this is a biased, ethnocentric, and downright uninformed position to take, especially with your condemnation of the men and cries of "Oh, the poor Japanese women!" Yes, Japan has sexist issues to deal with. However, the situation is much more complex than that, and you do any real Japanese societal problems a disservice with your puerile viewpoint.

Sorry, but this is all I can see when I look at your post:
JAPANESE MEN ARE DEVIANT WORKAHOLICS WHO ARE PATHETIC FOR EJACULATING TO CARTOONS AND UNDERAGE GIRLS AND INCEST AND WE SHOULD PITY THE POOR WOMEN WHO ARE SEXUALLY OPPRESSED AND UNWANTED IN A WORLD OF DISGUSTING MEN! ALSO I HOPE ONE OF THOSE WOMEN WILL REALIZE THOSE OTHER MEN ARE DICKS AND WILL HAVE SEX WITH ME.

    Don't selectively quote me.

Yes, in fact, there is a problem with diminished sexual activity in Japanese marriages.

Of course urbanization, families with two working parents, and birth control are affecting birth rate. But those exist everywhere in the industrialized world. Japan has an exceptionally low birth rate, so there are obviously exceptional factors at work.

The sexology of Japan is complex and interesting, not some tiny, meaningless factor to be ignored.

Yes, I am, in fact, saying that the degree to which pornography is consumed in Japan is related to the low birth rate. I am not implying a causal relationship.

I am, in fact, quite well informed on population implosion, and many aspects of Japanese culture.

Your hostility is unwarranted. You have made this a personal issue, and have shown great disrespect toward me. I do not deserve this, and you are in the wrong. Learn to converse in a mature, respectful manner, or I, and anyone else you choose to harass, will simply ignore you.

  • I don't really think it's ridiculous, Ken. I don't know why you are surprised that you got that sort of response.

Surprise isn't the issue. Respect is. I have an opinion, based on my knowledge of the situation, that is not personally directed toward anybody, and did not express malice, hate, or malicious intent.

Anyone is free to disagree, contradict me, ignore me, or even humorously lambast my remarks. But there is no call for hostility and disrespect.

How is that selective quoting? That was nearly the entire paragraph of your post.
