Server Bog Down

edited June 2008 in Technology
Just had to do some work on my server as it was stuck. All image/HMTL serving was fine but the mysql server was stuck. when I logged in and pulled a top this is what I saw:
last pid: 25208; load averages: 1.16, 1.74, 1.67 up 58+20:56:03 15:39:45
339 processes: 2 running, 337 sleeping
CPU states: 7.1% user, 0.0% nice, 42.9% system, 0.0% interrupt, 50.0% idle
Mem: 629M Active, 62M Inact, 213M Wired, 20M Cache, 104M Buf, 5540K Free
Swap: 2048M Total, 903M Used, 1145M Free, 44% Inuse, 36K In, 12K Out

PID USERNAME THR PRI NICE SIZE RES STATE C TIME WCPU COMMAND
35292 root 1 116 0 4372K 220K CPU0 1 433.0H 98.68% monit
Anyone know why monit would be running at 98.68% ?

  • Bounce it, see if it still freaks out. Do the logs say anything useful?

Have not had time to check the logs yet. The server normally runs at about .18 load avg. tops but last night I looked and it was doing a steady 1.4 load avg. I did not see anything sucking down resources so I let it slide figuring something was getting hit a lot.
