Phantsy Star Online: Blue Burst

edited July 2008 in Video Games
I'm a little surprised there's not a thread for this already. Then again, I still don't have a very good feel for trends in this forum...

Over the last few days I've gotten into this game, mostly because if you use a public server you can play for free. And I think the official servers have been taken down, so it seems that's the only way to play. It is Phantsy Star Online, and I believe it is the same as the GCN game (although I only played that for a few minutes, but I don't remember anything different.)

This is the game client from filefront. it's the only (okay, best) place I've found to download the client. It says it's the demo, but it updates to the full game through the steps at the Schthack private server page. The two steps there are register for an account on their server, and then download the Japanese item patch.

I suppose this thread is for anyone interested in playing together, or just PSO nostalgia.

  • I may have to check this game out. I've been somewhat interested ever since Dave of Fast Karate mentioned it was free to play on PC.
  • Dave of Fast Karate
    It was Joel.
  • I loved PSO for the dreamcast, So I'll give it a shot.
  • It's a grinding game. No interest.
  • But the stories for the missions in PSO were so well written. The one where you escort the girl on the planet to help find her butler/father figure, the ending made me so sad I dropped the controller.

I'm pretty sure it was Dave talking about how he got it for the Gamecube, and was frustrated because "some douchebag on the forums" said it was free to play on the PC.

It is, but it's a grinding game that is fun for some reason. It's actually what I do when I have podcasts / audio books to listen to (because I don't travel to work, you see). Plus I've found the leveling up is fast as far as grinding games usually go.

yeahh...The stories aren't so well done in this one. Mind you, I don't know if this is because of translation errors, a lack of actual story mission (because it has been adapted slightly. Even possible that you can't play the missions you're thinking on the private server), or just because I focus more on smashing things with laser swords then any of the story. Red Ring Rico could be the early 360 mascott.

Yep. And even tho it's something they felt like sharing in the podcast, I still haven't managed to meet them online. That's pretty much why I decided to come here to try and recruit people to play.
  • How many people are usually online at once? Will I ever run into anyone else while playing?
