The Wrestler

edited February 2009 in Movies
So, has anyone else out there seen this film?

I just saw it today, and I must say, it was amazing. Mickey Rourke brings so much honesty and vulnerability to the character that it's actually painful to watch at times. It's a very deep and emotional performance on his part. Marisa Tomei does an equally excellent job playing the mirror of Rourke's character. The film does an excellent job of depicting the characters without necessarily pointing the audience towards any particular conclusion; it neither denounces nor glorifies any of the characters. Rather, it forces you to come to grips with their struggles, internalize them, and come to your own conclusion. It does so in a very powerful and moving way.

If you haven't seen this movie, do so.

  • Is it about professional wrestling, as in Hulk Hogan or as in real wrestling, like Zangief?
  • The Uncler (lame name, funny parody)

It's not really about wrestling at all, more about this washed up guy who just happens to be a professional wrestler... like Hulk Hogan. It's an amazing movie and it really just makes you sit back and be in awe of the struggles of both the main characters.

Like Norvu said, it's about a pro wrestler. There are pro wrestling sequences in it, but it's not really about professional wrestling at all.
