Favorite Marketing Fail

edited March 2009 in Everything Else
The SyFy (Syphilis) network got me thinking about this. Have you ever seen a marketing campaign/billboard/product name that can totally be taken the wrong way and is unintentionally hilarious?

Here's mine, rotten woman that I am.

Also, I once saw a billboard in the south for a church that had a "God Hand" and said "Behold, I come quickly." I guess my mind is dirty.

    ... I don't get it.

I'm thinking something to do with Boy Love, maybe?
  • I lolled the moment I saw that name appear. I figure there's no overlap between the people they're marketing to and the people who would find it funny. ^_~

    Let me just say this:

I thought that Bud Light could not be any more horrible. It was near the bottom of the pile when it comes to "beer."

I tried BL Lime. It's basically an abortion in a bottle.

  • Okay, Viga should be here to explain.

BL is a short form of Boy's Love, or Yaoi comics.
Lime is a fan-fiction term that means mildly smutty yaoi with lots of making out or something. (Lemon is the term for ones that are really naughty)

So BL lime is basically a word for steamy yaoi fanfic.

... So I should be glad I don't get the joke, then?

I laughed at the original picture, but this makes it, to me, even better.
  • Probably. It means that you are innocent and unsullied. Not rotten.

Well, at least, it wasn't the first thing in my mind. I knew all the concepts you were saying, I just didn't immediatly put them all together.

I DON'T WANT TO BE ROTTEN... but I've progressed too far.
  • I am half rotten. I didn't know that lime meant. Now I do. I'm tainted!

    That makes two of us.
  • Daw. I missed the boat on this thread. I LOL'd after seeing the first post.

Not necessarily. I didn't get it either. ^_~
  • Rotten woman (fujoshi) means a girl who reads BL.

image This is just an absolutely disgraceful and pointless marketing campaign. I can only wonder what was going through their heads while making and approving this.
Regardless, this is still my favorite marketing fail ever.

    Ha!
  • I remember that Eartbound ad. Thanks to that ad I had a very wrong impression of what Earthbound was for a very long time.
