External Hard Drive Problems

This morning, I awoke to find that my Iomega UltraMax Single External Hard Drive wouldn't show up on my computer. I tried using both the FireWire and USB cables, but neither worked. I have restarted my Mac and the Hard Drive itself in hopes that it would magically start working again, but to no avail. The hard drive has both back-ups off of my laptop and lots of video, so if I have to replace the hard drive I can. I just don't want to have to spend 150 dollars on a new one. Help?

    Listen very closely to the drive when plugging it in. Does the spindle start up? do you hear repetitive read attempts?

    If you don't want to spend $150, get a separate sata -> usb dock and plug the drive into that to test it. In all likelihood, however, the drive is brocken and you will have to get a new external drive anyway.
