New Health Care Bill

Pelosi just announced that the bill proposed to reform health care will not only include a public option, but will put an end to "pre-existing condition" discrimination. Additionally, it won't add to the national deficit, and cover an additional 36 million more people.

In other news: Joe Lieberman is a lying, whiny douche bag.

I haven't found a link to the bill yet, but it's been online for 3 months apparently.

There's a link to the bill in the story.

Only to Republicans. " I reject your reality and substitute my own!"

This. The GOP/Faux News has been sounding the death-knell for a public option for over a month, obviously hoping that their "if we say it enough times, it'll just be true" strategy would take.
  • I still don't understand why they want the public option gone. Doesn't it benefit a lot of Republicans, too?

You can't use logic to battle Fox News. You have to out fear-monger them. A tricky thing since they have an entire news format designed to do just that.

All the Dems have are comedians that double as good journalists.

Yeah, how dare we have common sense and a sense of humor.
Fighting fear mongering with fear mongering only exacerbates the problem.

You're looking at the wrong people the GOP wants to benefit from insurance. See, while we want people to benefit from insurance, the GOP wants insurance companies to benefit from insurance. It's been going on since Nixon. It's also why the Republicans have started freaking out that members of the house want to revoke the insurance company's immunity to certain laws that would prevent them from price fixing.

True, but it's the only thing the Republican base understands.

Rym bringing the heavy hitters with both babies and swine flu! Look out everyone!

In Kate's defense, I put the link up after she asked.

The edit helps make that clear. I didn't see a post answering her question, so I wanted to make sure. :)
  • That fucking bill is like 1990 pages of lawyer talk.

So what's up with the 2013 deadline? Is this business going to be so messy that it's going to take that long or are they waiting until after an election year?
  • That fucking bill is like 1990 pages of lawyer talk.
But it's REALLY BIG FONT. So the old men can read it I guess.
  • IF YOU DON'T ALLOW THE PUBLIC OPTION, BABIES WILL DIE! GOD WOULD BE PISSED AT YOU! SWINE FLU WILL SPREAD!
Actually, cooking up these alarmist headlines is a lot of fun!
    • "A VOTE AGAINST THE PUBLIC OPTION IS A VOTE FOR SWINE FLU."
    • "END CORPORATE INFANTICIDE. VOTE YES FOR THE PUBLIC OPTION."
    • "CORPORATE FAT CATS WANT TO KILL GRANDMA. KEEP HER GOING WITH THE PUBLIC OPTION."
    • "WHEN YOU BUY INSURANCE FROM A PRIVATE FIRM YOU BUY FROM AL QAEDA."
The best part is they don't even need to make sense!

Well, they're lawmakers. The write in law talk. That's why we have lawyers. And Bob Loblaw's Law Blog.

Have you read about the conservative revision of the Bible that edits out all that embarassing "help others and try to be good" stuff?

You mean the socialist propaganda? Yeah. American Jesus doesn't stand for that pinko bull.

Of course Jesus is an American and a conservative! The Holy Spirit? Sounds a lot like "the invisible hand of the free market" to me.

Deregulate! It's what Jesus would do.
  • Jesus: The original Great White Hope of the GOP.
  • I'm very happy for this new bill, but I won't hold my breath for it. I'm not celebrating until it's signed into law.

But this is a good sign.

Oh, and just for poops and snickers (thank you Nine for that phrase):
The public option is dead. Trust me. And feel free to call me on it if proven untrue.
You're not wrong yet, but it doesn't look good.
  • it doesn't look good.
I know, the government trying to take care of us, the horror!

It's pretty much my worst nightmare. I mean, shit, next thing you know, they'll try to give us good schools. Fuck that. My kids don't need to know things.
