    Exactly. I want something like "in media res" without the connotation of starting a story.

    EDIT: What's the word for realizing somethingwhile you're doing it? Retrospect is afterward, prospect is, I would assume, before. What about the ol'in media res?
    The only ones I could come up with using the same rhyming pattern (cause it seems natural to do so) are detect, which is technically correct but doesn't really invoke the same meaning, and introspect, which has the same action, but it's not time specific.
