Anime Seasons of 2010

edited February 2010 in Anime
Oh boy, Spring is looking up (especially compared to that god awful winter season.)

New Shows I might check out!
- Iron Man - Say what you want, but I think when Marvel heroes get the Japanese anime treatment, the results can be pretty cool. (Still haven't seen the Gotham Knight collection, though) I think this might actually be one of the cooler mech-suit shows IF they do what I hope and take the best of both worlds. A short series, with Wolverine replacing it in the summer.
- Yojo-han Shinwa Taikei - College Club Antics! Yes! I trust the Noitamina and Noise blocks to provide most of my good shows every season.
- Senko no Night Raid - Might be good? Historical Spy story, set in China. Depends on how atmospheric and well-plotted the spy stuff is.
- House of Five Leaves - another Noitamina show. Natsume Ono's work has really grown on me. It's weird and not very anime. (I like her manga about cops in NYC.)
- Heroman - the Stan Lee anime! Let's see how "I hit you, you little guy" it is. I doubt it will be good, but I'll give it a shot.
- Arakawa under the Bridge - It's the guy with the star head from the saint young men creator!
- Oofuri 2 - GAYSBALLLLLLLL RETURNS! I am going to draw so much fanart, you have no idea. I <3 baseball and I love cute guys holding hands, so I'm good with this one.

  • Will defintley be giving Yojo-han Shinwa Taikei a watch.
  • Have chart. I'll see what comes out, doesn't look much better or worse than current winter season.
  • I had chart fag's chart and I think it looks much better than the winter season.

Whoa, are they actually doing these for the Japanese market? I assumed they were for American release. Also, Warren Ellis is involved, so that's encouraging.

This one is actually a ploy by Marvel to make their heroes more popular in the Japanese marketplace. There have been similar co-productions in the past, much manga, etc. Hey, I'm all for it, because I think some of the stuff that makes traditional Ame-comi (American Comic) superheroes remain a niche market in Japan are the same reasons why I get annoyed with this genre. Or...it could be like Witchblade, which is a touching story for a bit, but then it devolves into horrible Freudian psuedo-porn.

edit: OMG, I didn't see the OAVs!

    - Black Rock Shooter, a Miku Spin-off is coming. I like Miku, so this is a cool thing.
    - Gundam Unicorn - Serious Gundam, okay, I'll watch
    - Remake of Ai no Kusabi, which is apparently the best yaoi or something? It's all Sci Fi and plotty, but it might be a bit too explicit for my tastes. Also, speaking of Yaoi, I saw that there was an OAV called Sex Pistols, and I was like "God Save the Queen? What?" but it was just some lame BL title.

  • K-ON!
Arakawa under the bridge looks interesting.

  • Sarai-ya Goyou ( House of Five Leaves) seems like it will be interesting.
Akitsu Masanosuke is a timid ronin on his way to Edo from the countryside when he accidentally encounters a playboy named Yaichi, who asks him to be his bodyguard. But it turns out that Yaichi is actually the leader of a group of bandits called the "Five Leaves," and he's hoping that Masanosuke will join them. Masanosuke is reluctant to help them, but as grows closer to his eccentric new companions, he learns to relate to them and grow as a person in the process.
  • I don't think there's been a season in the past 4 or 5 years when I've wanted to watch more than half a dozen shows. I don't have this much free time! XD

Yes, the chart looks better, the anime liste-
edit: OMG, I didn't see the OAVs!
Quoi? They've always been there! As for BRS, that just has become an entirely independent character. Visually it takes from Miku, but that's about it. Miku was just the muse for the idea. If the OVA sucks, eh, nothing lost concerning Vocaloids.

I think my lack of enthusiasm comes from the list still being V1. So I'm expecting more stuff will be added. Still seems about equal to winter season atm.

That character design style annoys me, so it's gonna hafta be good for me to watch. I had the same problem with that count of monte cristo anime, it might have been brilliant but the art style drove me so up the wall I just couldn't watch it.

Yeah, the zombie look isn't that appealing. Zombies work better in live action. Also, Josh Bytes, what's with the URL shortener? It's not like you came near the character limit for posts, or that you're linking to something shady.

It's a Twitter habit. Also I will have to admit the character designs aren't to appealing. But weird/ugly character aesthetics have never been a deterrent in me not watching a series.

  • Actually, her style works better as a comic, and when she draws people more cartoon-y. I've been reading COPPERS, her NYC police drama, and the style is actually similar to a lot of indie comics in America. It's definitely not as "anime" as a lot of people are used to.

I was about to say the character designs remind of the show Ristorante Paradiso. Only to find out both series are by the same manga creator.

  • You can tell because of the google eyes and the really big mouths, right?
She also draws Yaoi under the pen-name "Basso," so those manga are also her.
  • There also the pointy noses. Never really thought of the eyes as being googly but I get what you mean.
  • Yeah! New Ikkitousen!

You best be joshin' me, boy.

You best be joshin' me, boy.
But it's the best tournament-fighting, possessed-teenager, naive-girl, ecchi-teen-lesbian-abuse anime on the market! Who can argue with that?

    :P
