  • My thought was since there aren't going to be any updates or price drops so soon before Mario Kart comes out, I might as well buy it now. I got Street Fighter with it. The AR Cards really were mind-blowing but I ended up totally indifferent with everything else.
  • The greatest review has been linked here, I am a huge Dr. Ashens fan and his tat reviews.
  • This man's voice is smooth like butter.
  • My roommate got one, it's pretty awesome. It's really shiny, the AR is BITCHIN' and totally fun, all the little free things that come with the system are cool, Street Fighter is cool, he got a TBS called Ghost Recon that looks pretty cool, Pilotwings is supposed to be good, and the system is pretty cool. I might get one this weekend if I ultimately decide it's a good idea.

    Tell me about it.
  • In my opinion, the value of the 3DS rises exponentially if more people get it. We can all add each other and keep up with all the upcoming games together.

No point if the new games are few and not so good.

I think what we need to do is rebel. There is sort of a lost era of games for the original Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and even Game Gear. There is a huge library of games that is rarely played. We should start a little club where we play and discuss one really old portable game per week.

It's funny because the 3DS has a Game Boy Virtual Console.

It'd be interesting to do this when the 3DS gets its Virtual Console, and we can discuss the games that come out each week.

Not really, because I doubt it will ever have the really good weird games that nobody knows about. Sure, you'll get Kirby Pinball, Kirby Dreamland, Wario 2, Zelda, etc. But will you get Bomberman GB, Hunt for Red October, or 007?

If it doesn't, you can bet a hack on the SD cards will get them running eventually.

I don't see why not. The Wii's Virtual Console has some pretty strange games, like Pitstop 2, Cho Aniki, and Mighty Bomb Jack (which is awesome, by the way).

It has to do with licenses.

I am all for this. I have so many weird old games its not even funny, not to mention roms.

I'll probably buy a 3DS this summer when there are actually a couple games I want, and I have money to spend. I got a DS phat the Christmas it was released and didn't regret it one bit, but I was stuck playing Mario 64 and the Metroid demo for months. Right now there are only a couple games I would want and they aren't worth $40 a pop to me anyway. I've got a R4 clone full of original DS games I haven't played, not to mention a shit ton of real games I haven't touched. I've got a ton of portable games I can play right now and not enough time.
  • The fact that the online store isn't available at launch is definitely a concern. When is Nintendo going to get serious with their support for online features? Some things never change.

Nintendo fails at all computers. I mean, look at their web sites.

I think a lot of the problems are stemming from the earthquake and tsunami. Nintendo isn't launching Pokemon Global Link quite yet specifically because of the tsunami.

I agree and I would be totally on board for this. I have very little free time because of school, but I'll be on break June-September, and that's when the 3DS is really going to be exploding anyways.

I'm not buying a 3DS till Zelda comes out on it. Even if there's no price drop by then (and I HIGHLY doubt there will be one), there will most likely be a sexy as fuck special edition Zelda 3DS bundle that comes out, which will be worth the wait, since I've never owned a special edition Nintendo handheld before and I've always wanted one.

Also, I kinda want to buy Mario 64 DS again and play it on the 3DS cause of the thumb pad. The lack of a control stick is basically what killed Mario 64DS for me, so this will certainly remedy the problem. Or I can just go play the game for the N64 lol.

As someone who knows several people on the inside who actually work on NOA's online functionality, I can assure you the earthquake/tsunami has little to do with it. Particularly where the online stores are concerned, America's operations are almost 100% independent of Japan's. These same people won't tell me exactly why, but I get the feeling it's more they simply weren't ready.
  • Well that's interesting...but I'm not surprised. Delaying the release of the 3DS just because the store isn't open yet isn't really that big of a deal. Might as well release it now if there's nothing they can do to improve the hardware itself, rather than wait till June when the big game releases are out. Sure it makes for a less hyped launch, but it allows the sales to trickle in earlier, and that's what matters the most.

Also, I couldn't care less about most online features. My most cherished moments playing multiplayer games date back to Mario Kart, SSB, and Mario Party on N64. No online mode can replicate that. Even with voice chat, it's not the same. I'm all for consoles that support 4 people locally.
  • A big reason why I chose to get the 3DS on launch date is GameStop's DSi trade-in offer. I traded my DSi XL for $100, which is about the amount I'd get if I sold it online or to a friend.
  • If the 3DS's camera can take 3D video eventually, I wonder if we will see surge of 3D amateur pornography in the near future.
  • It appears Japan is taking a phraise from Texas, bigger is better.

Wow, could Gamestop actualy be giving close to fair trade in values? A used DSi XL is only worth $130 in the online market, and you still have to factor our the cost of selling fees plus the time and effort to list and ship the item. $100 seems very generous compared to their traditionally pitiful prices.
  • Did anyone else pick this up? It'd be great to add more friends to my list.

I will potentially get one this weekend, and if I do, I'll be sure to post my code up here and add you. I'm really glad they're doing the universal codes, and they have the thing where you can post a picture of your Mii and friend code, look at it with the camera, and add them through that. Pretty kewl.

I'm holding out till the next iteration as there are currently no games I am particularly interested in, aside from Street Fighter IV maybe, but I already have it on PS3 and iPhone, so I'm covered for now at least.

Also, my girlfriend has a history of buying me a handheld consoles for our anniversary, (DS lite, DSi, PSP) so I'll hold off to see what happens this June. Don't tell her I said that though.

I'm holding out until Nintendo release Inazuma Eleven in the UK, even though it's gotten a European (and English language at that) release.

Because they can't even do that right.

I can't trust Nintendo to release games that have been localised in the PAL territories right, what hope do I have for anything that ATLUS so much looks at?

Fuck yes, exactly right. Why I will get a USA 3DS eventually. ATLUS release all the games I really want to play!!! If I cannot get them in PAL... No deal.
  • Amazing ad for Ocarina of Time.
