Folding@Home

edited July 2010 in Technology
Thinking of installing Folding@Home GPU so when I'm downloading big stuff overnight (Damn you Steam.), my computer can be doing something useful with the leftover power.

Has anyone here had any experience with F@H? In particular, I'd like to know about energy consumption and bandwidth usage.

  • I've been running it at home for a couple years now since I heard about it on Kotaku. It just runs in the background so I don't think it consumes much more energy than leaving your computer on overnight. It's not memory intensive and as far as I can tell it only uses bandwidth on two occasions: when receiving a work unit, and when sending the results in.
