  • What about all the times the CIA directly backed coups against democratically-elected leaders?

PLEASE. Send your intelligence agencies over to the US and back a coup. I will join it. We're begging you.

  • I meant that as an example of how the US fucks with other sovereign nations.

  • So I guess I live in Washington DC now, does anyone want to hang out?

    I hope you're joking.

I did not see this until today. I agree.
  • Ad blocking is great. It makes so many poorly designed websites readable. Now I am encountering a ramp up of the anti-adblocking techniques.

Up to now I have encountered many sites that use pop ups to ask me to turn off the ad blocking. I have even encountered a few that tell me no access unless I turn off adblocking. Now I am encountering sites that warn me adblocking will negatively impact my viewing experience at which point said site purposefully screws up my viewing experience.

  • My friend and I just had a discussion about weed being legal in MA - and we live just north of the MA border in NH, where weed is not yet legal. However, fireworks ARE legal in NH, but not in MA. Naturally, this has led to plotting out a sitcom. I think this idea has legs.

A laid-back stoner opens a weed store right on the MA side of the border, that happens to be right across from a fireworks store on the NH side, run by a hyper, over excitable fireworks enthusiast. Hijinks ensue - but they have to learn to get along, because the mayors of the two respective towns don't want these guys around, so they team up to try and run these stores out of town.

Working title: "Where There's Smoke, There's Fire"
  • Or it could be a shop opened on the MA/NH border where the NH side is a fireworks store and the MA side being a dispensary like that casino in Malcolm in the Middle.

I'm okay with that too - as long as we don't lose the 'wacky neighbors' dynamic.

Fun fact, since NH has no sales tax, we already have a mall where the corner was sliced off right at the MA border. The state decided that if the building extended into MA, then the entire mall would be subject to MA sales tax, so they clipped a corner off of JC Penney.

I have reletives in Newton, NH, actually, which judging by your being near Phesent Lane Mall, is near you I guess?

It is pretty close - about 25 miles from where I live; also right along the MA border. Newton is about halfway to the coast from where I am. Though there isn't much to speak of between the Merrimack Valley and the coast, so I don't know that I've ever been to Newton. ;)

"There isn't much to speak of" describes much of NH.

    ... You're not wrong.

But at least the coast, the Lakes Region, and the White Mountains are destinations. That said, if you (or anyone, really) find yourself in the area anytime soon, head over to Pelham, NH, my hometown, to check out the Pinball Wizard Arcade. It's an old-school arcade with all kinds of pinball machines and classic games. It's not quite at the level of a Funspot, but it's easier to get to from the Boston area.
  • Had to collect resources for trans* people (law, medical, social, what have you) for a local LGBT support group. For some reason it's way easier to find resources on stopping bathroom bills than it is to find resources for getting HRT, reporting hate crimes, specialized counseling, or any number of other things that have a much greater existential threat to trans people than where they excrete waste.

I don't ever get the bathroom bullshit. Such a trivial fucking issue. I can literally just walk into any bathroom I want, there's no keycard I need. In fact on more than one occasion I've accidentally (or sometimes intentionally) gone into the Women's bathroom and used the bathroom. What about co-ed bathrooms? I know girls that have said fuck it, the women's line is too long I'm going in to the men's bathroom. Pretending its a threat to children is such a fucking joke. There's probably an infinitely bigger chance of your child getting kidnapped by another woman than there is of a child being assaulted by a transgender person who wants to feel normal and part of society by still trying to adhere to societies bullshit norms to begin with.

The dumbest thing about the "think of the children!" argument is that aren't lots of child molesters men who target little boys? I certainly don't hear about attacks in public mens bathrooms all the time, so it really doesn't seem like a problem.
