Being a middle-class Canadian who is a life long beneficiary of Keynesian-ism and as someone who's read The Shock Doctrine and No Logo and has seen The Trap, I'm pretty socialist when it comes to economic theory and I gather there are lots of libertarians on FRC.

When you bottom line Keynes vs Hayek it's pretty easy to frame it as "stupid, corrupt central planning vs. lean, bootstrapping entrepreneurship" but I am unaware of any case in history where pure laissez faire economics hasn't resulted in either total clusterfucks or brutal, unaccountable oligarchies.

Anyone care to set me straight?

Best response in quite a while. LOL
  • Laissez-faire and pure capitalism is one of those ideas that looks good only on paper.

I think the libertarian aspect of the FRC forums is much more socially/morally libertarian than economically and politically so. I myself tend more toward socialist progressive. I like a large helping of regulation on my capitalist entrepreneurship , so it doesn't run away with itself. (and the economy/environment/working conditions, etc.)

These are the people who really blow me away. I tried to read Atlas Shrugged a few years ago and had to stop before I started yelling at it on the bus. I can't imagine anyone who's read her works or knows anything about her basing their political beliefs on them. They can't all be psychopaths.

As has been said, "Never without evidence attribute to malice that which can be attributed to stupidity."
  • 300 million people are hoping atlas will shrug so they can step up and fill his shoes.

Tangent: That's one of my douchebag tests. Pronounce it like "Ann". If someone's a total dick, they'll correct you to "ein".
  • I'd argue that Ein the Corgie was more intelligent than Ayn the objectivist.

I'd argue the same for a regular Corgi.
