    That makes it easy.
  • and Boston and Shaun, a strange beast that seems fairly tame at the start but contains disturbing hints of furry, vore and inflation fetishes and then some. Both of those haven't been updated in ages though.
He should lose just because he uses flash to serve up webcomics. Why are .png's or .jpegs such a hard thing?
  • just because he uses flash to serve up webcomics
There is NOTHING wrong with that. The potential for using flash, even just minor things like small, small moving details is awesome. And not knowing for certain whether you're on a page that has crazy stuff is also great. So I say no, using flash to serve pages of your comic should not be a reason for calling fail. There's enough other reasons to call that comic bad though.

  • I'll make a prediction now: This episode will become "Rym and Scott piss all over Ctrl-Alt-Del", and subsequently the forums will suffer some internet backdraft from a horde of 16-year-old visigoths.
That will be amusing, for a while. Maybe Tim Buckley will threaten to sue Scrym, before allegedly showing pictures of his knob to underage girls. Again.

Well the comic I was talking about has zero flash effects, it is literally 3 frames with no special flashness, not even flash buttons.

  • And Just to make the animators of the forums cry, the CAD animated series season 2 trailer.
I can barely draw a stick figure and I think that's embarrassing.
Damn, that is hysterical from the Mary-Sue Terribleness.

There is nothing wrong with using flash or flash-like things to show your comic - the fantastic(but sadly on hiatus) Platinum Grit does it decently. It's when you do it poorly that it's a problem.
  • It seems some of the content is still there on the original Hathor site but you have to go post by post. Here's as good a starting point as any.

Absolutley! The strange thing is the comic was plain image files when I first read it years ago. That means sometime between then and now the author took the time to replace all that with flash nonsense. Pretty disturbing I think.
  • I nominated Electric Retard. I'm not going to link it, because you don't want to read it. Seriously. There's some vile shit in there.

    Here's a disturbing comment:
    "::big grin::
I am making this for a few of my friends who have been asking me for milk for their coffee!"

I disagree about Electric Retard. Yes, it's fucking vile, but it's utility function is to offend and it achieves that. It literately has no other purpose than to make the reader incredibly uncomfortable. My nomination, The Freckled Finger, is similarly offensive, but you get the feeling that the author is just a straight-up racist who is trying to be funny. The guy who draws Electric Retard is probably pretty twisted, but there is almost no chance the comic reflects his views; rather, he's doing it for the lulz.

In other words, Electric Retard may be the most offensive comic, but it's not the worst because it's intended to be offensive and nothing else.

Can I make multiple nominations? I have a back-up incredibly bad webcomic which is bad for entirely different reasons than my first submission.

    [Proof of me being wrong]
Well am I fucking glad I also ticked that box when adding that comic to the list, again. And then ticked off "OTHER" and wrote down "AND THE WHOLE FUCKING LIST AGAIN" (something close to that). I'm not even surprised. Thanks for making a shit comic... I forgot the pisser's name. LIKE I CARE.

Let me see. BACK! With !!SCIENCE!!, I can indeed make multiple nominations. Not as if I did (I just put in CAD again for all the same reasons, AND !!SCIENCE!! THIS TIME 'ROUND!), I also don't fill in name and e-mail. So your mileage may vary. Not like I see a reason to bar anyone with more than one suggestion. It is after all a suggestion box. Scrym's going to be the stupid idiots to actually look at those suggestions and make a list of horrible shit and why. Enjoy, be merry and feast upon the schadenfraude-to-be.

Banana Comic nominated for "Most Scrotum-Clenchingly Disturbing."

I also remember reading some comic linked to from 4chan that was really funny at first. Then the other comics revealed that the nameless author was a depraved /b/tard who likely struggled with some really sickening paraphilias and racism, and these were woven into the comics so subtly that is was immensely uncomfortable to read.

EDIT: It was Lego Robot Comics, the originator of the famous "BLOOD AND THUNDER" and Cereal Man comics. However, it appears that my guess about the man's paraphilias was indeed correct; according to ED, his website is gone after he got permabanned from SA for liking kids a bit too much.

  • Gah, the other comic I was going to submit, Do the Math Comics, has disappeared from the web, though the guy has a personal website under the same name which is sort of as insane. Not only is the author completely batshit in a most entertaining fasion, the comic was drawn in MS Paint, ran for like 8 years and did not improve at all during that time, and, most damningly, never actually had punchlines. Like, ever. They were certaining intended to be amusing or funny, you could see statments that were probably intended to be punchlines, but they were really just sort of wierd exchanges/rants between an author avatar (you can tell because he looks like Cyclops from X-Men. The author is always wearing a crappy Cyclops costume in his videos) bouncing off a Wolverine-guy who completely lacked personality, talking about videogames in front of wierd MS Paint backgrounds.

I read it about a year ago when my buddy Chris and I did a few tests for a potental podcast reviewing webcomics. It was so godawful, the site was almost completely impossible to navigate, and it was never, ever funny even a little.

Maybe you can answer this question for me -- at what point does Platinum Grit get good, and would it be reasonable to just start there? Because I found that webcomic years ago, and the current episode looked pretty interesting (with great art), but I bought the first volume when Image released it a couple years ago, and it was pretty crap.

I think about book two or so - episode nine to twelve, roughly - but I'm not sure if this is just an issue of differing opinions and preferences. What didn't you like about it, if I may ask?

I don't remember a lot of specifics, other than that a major character in that book was a dumb Highlander parody. It just...wasn't very good. My vague memory impression is that it was a pretty random plot that never went anywhere interesting, with bad dialogue, and lots of unfunny jokes. But like I said, the bits I've read from much later on seemed promising.

Oh, yeah, it has some initial hitches like that, but it starts to really get it's legs round about when Kate the journo is introduced(if you're going in order of how they were physically published, around the start of the second volume, though the PG website lists book seven as the start of book 2), though the dialog is still a little bad at that point(though still improved), but it continues to get better over time - there is often a jump in quality between chapters, since each one used to take so long to produce. For example, between the start of book two and the end, it's roughly five years of real world time, IIRC, with some of the chapters being years apart in publication time. It also starts to move away from the jokes, and more towards actual plot at around that point.

And as you know, You can always read it free over at the website, too, if you want to check it out.

Interestingly, in an interview Trudy once said -
From the readers, there's been bugger-all response, but then we are obscure unknowns from Australia. Not having any money to publicise ourselves makes it almost impossible to generate interest, so until we discover some sneaky backdoor, we'll likely stay obscure unknowns.
And now, she's found the backdoor of webcomics, since she's now moderately famous in the US as either Bodil Bodilson, or simply, Oglaf.

    She's also said previously
Long story short: I’ve been struggling with myself over Grit, and after much weighing-up and soul searching, I (personally – not Danny) can’t keep doing this the way I have been. Before panic sets in, this doesn’t mean I’m dropping Grit. But I am dropping the format of single-episode releases.
Grit will return, but it needs a new website, new page-at-a-time archive so that we can start doing page updates like every other webcomic does. I loved the immersion of the flash format, but practically it’s time to lose it. I’m working on getting the funds together to get the new site built, but can’t give any dates. The forum will stay, but everything else won’t, so if you want a heads-up when the new site is built and Grit is back, subscribe to this thread so you get an email notif.
So, we might be seeing more(and better) Platinum grit in the future.

  • Thank you sir. I will do that, eventually. I've been meaning to get around to that comic for a couple years now. :)

It's worth it - they didn't pull down no less than three Ledger awards(two silvers and a gold*) in a single year for nowt.

*- Independent press title of the year, Artist of the year, and Writer of the year, respectively, plus a Ledger of Honour for Cooper. Following it up the next two years with Webcomic or comic strip of the year and artist of the year. After that, Ledger awards were no longer awarded.

  • User Friendly

The comic has been around for 14 years, and it has absolutely terrible art that hasn't improved the slightest. The author made no effort since day one, and he still refuses to change his "style," if you can call it that. He continues to make ugly, rushed comics every single day.
  • User Friendly has actually been dead and in reruns for... two years now?

I just submitted Modest Medusa; It's only "Majorly Creepy", not "My god what the fuck Creepy", but it's worth a mention for loli monstergirl urophilia.
  • If one of the comics already submitted isn't the absolute worst on the internet, I don't know what is, unless Megatokyo has not been mentioned. The art hasn't improved since it started, the story is pointless and confusing and goes nowhere, and there's a disturbing amount of barely-disguised moe/lolita bullshit.
Also, looking at some of the comics has actually given me a headache. That Sarah one is pretentious, Gamer Girls is retarded, and the one with the obese anthro stuff was horrible all the way through. I did better work in high-school.

Shit, I made better comics in grade-school. Granted the punchlines had a similar amount of punch to them, and my handwriting was so bad that I can hardly read them anymore, but they aren't groan-inducing.

  • I realize now that this was all just a sinister plot by Scott to force me to read furry pornography. I also now realize that many of you have furry pornography at your fingertips, just waiting for an opportunity to send a link to someone.

You all also really, really seem to hate CAD.

CAD is one of those comics that would be on the borderline with me, if I didn't know the person behind it was adamantly opposed to improving, and generally a dick. Yes, separate art and artist and all that, but sometimes it's just not possible.
