  • Gotta be careful when you've been hit by a scooter. Never know what might pop out of your forehead.

I noticed in the article that the guy run over by the scooter was a Legal Aid observer. A person at Occupy Boston playing a similar role was arrested during the crackdown here earlier this week. It's really unusual (at least in Massachusetts) for people clearly marked as Legal Observers to be arrested at protests.
  • I was meant to be covering Occupy Brisbane, but the Editor who wanted me to do it called early this morning and basically said "I looked out the window, it's pissing down. The protest is pretty much off, only a bunch of angry freshers standing about getting a well-needed shower. How fast can you get there if it kicks off like ashgrove? Fifteen minutes? Alright, keep an eye on it, if anything blows up, get in there."

So, I don't have to go out in driving rain to listen to idiots anymore, and I still get paid - Paid less, but paid. Good times.
  • Question - What's the difference between the White-shirts and the regular cops?
  • edited October 2011
I don't know for sure, but I'm pretty sure whiteshirts are sort of like army officers in police hierarchy. I know that's the case for Toronto at least.

  • There's an "Occupy the UP" going on in Marquette, but really I feel no need to take part in it. While I like the basic idea of "shit's fucked up and we need to make it not fucked up" I don't see it doing all that much.
  • Wow. That officer was so clearly in the wrong it's not even funny.
  • You'd think they'd know by now not to do something like that.

    Ouch.
does anyone else get really annoyed when people do not cut out the audio of a clip when they slow it down?

That's fucking appalling. That officer should be disciplined and thrown off the force.
  • OWS taking over Times Square. Cops apparently moving in soon.
  • 71 people have been arrested. Reeves toldme.
  • I decided to make some statements of my own:

  • A bunch of filthy hippies are sitting under Grey's Monument here, camped out for two days going. There's maybe twelve of them, and their banners are absurdly stupid. My personal favorite was "MUBARAK - OUT. GADDAFI - OUT. CAMERON - NEXT. OBAMA - SECOND," as if the latter two have anything in common with the previous two. One of them had a Guy Fawkes mask. There were lots of clashing posters and ideologies, as well as internet memes and a drum circle.

Perhaps the most delightfully stupid thing here was that the socialist reforms that the 99ers in the US are fighting for have existed in the UK for a LONG time.
  • Why do they want to get rid of James Cameron?

I really feel like there needs to be a "Don't Hate, Educate" movement; instead of just yelling things like "People, not Profit" or "Eat the Bankers" or (as much as it pains me to say it) "The Rent is Too Damn High", there needs to be a concious effort by smart people to help identify the real problems and get people behind solving them. Campaign reform, the specific tax loopholes (instead of just RAR LOOPHOLES, WE HATES THEM PRECIOUS). Ask the right questions, as it were, instead of assuming we already have the answers. It was "experts" with all the answers who somehow couldn't see the problem with what has been happening for the last 30 years that got us where we are today.

I dunno, its probably just shit-talk (as I won't end up devoting myself to this, which is making the wild assumption that I am a smart person).

    Did you SEE Avatar?

Yeah, our occupy protests were stupid to begin with - and then the socialist alliance got a hold of them, flooded them with red shirts, and now it's just an absolute joke.
  • I got into quite a few discussions about the Occupy Wall Street thing this weekend (and apparently the Occupy Charleston march went down fantastically), and ultimately what we ended up agreeing on is that these protests make for a fantastic first step. We need people to realize it's OK to be outraged at what's going on and that they don't have to sit down and take it anymore. Once people start agreeing with that and outwardly supporting this sort of thing, that's when the next step can come in and real ideas and focused points can be agreed upon. Right now, I think it's important to simply express the outrage we all feel.

They die every time they show up at a new place?
