GeekNights Wednesday - The 2013 Anime Renaissance

Tonight on GeekNights, we discuss the minor anime renaissance that seems to have been sparked by Attack on Titan, and is now smoldering through Kill La Kill and hopefully Space Dandy. Be sure to check out the Fantagraphics 2014 Spring Season and Bee and Puppycat kickstarters. Wolf Children is playing again in several theaters, and a new Initial D movie is coming (with non-SuperEurobeat music possibly).

  • That YouTube video made my day. The sense of confusion in the crowd really makes me feel good. Good job, internet.

Here's hoping to see more of an "Anime Revolution." Madoka and Attack on Titan definitely got its popularity. Looking forward for the future reactions to Kill La Kill, Space Dandy, and whenever the heck Sailor Moon decides to come through.

This episode in a nutshell: hey, maybe if Scrym keep claiming there's an "Anime Renaissance" long enough, it'll actually happen!

If you were trained your entire life in singing, acting, dancing, modeling, speaking, etc. you don't fuck up too often.
  • You want a suggestion on what to watch?

    Avatar. As Rym mentioned,

There is literally nothing else that could be better at this point.

You trusted in Ponies, you trusted in Adventure Time and Avatar is arguably better than both of those shows, being a completed story arc and looking back.
  • So they figured out the animal by only thinking of the...bare necessities? :D
