edited November 2008 in Video Games
Until Friday, Half-life 1 is only 1$ on steam, now there is NO excuse not to have natural selection

  • Anyone how doesn't have this (which I doubt is many people) should buy this.
  • I'll buy THAT for a dollar!

This is a very cool idea. It'd be even cooler if they gave it away for free, but $1 is practically free in today's economy anyhow.
  • After hearing Scrym talk about this relentlessly over the past few weeks I'm glad I finally got the excuse to get HL1 and get into NS. I bought it today.
  • Maybe I should buy this with another account to have a key for a server.
  • There's still an excuse. Not enough time+motivation to play it. No reason to buy a product I wouldn't use.

For $1, I'd still buy it, just in case.
  • I wish I had $1.... I want to play NS. >:D
  • Not to mention Half-Life is a great game in it's own right.

Ok, I gifted HL to Loganator, if anyone else is a bit tight on cash right now, post and someone will surely come to your aid. Cmon, for $5 you could have five more people playing with/against you.

Also: This is generally what happens when you first get attacked by a skulk.

  • If someone really wants to throw the money at me, I would love this. I was just talking about how much I wanted to play NS the other day in Steam chat.
  • I'm a bit embarrassed to admit that I've never played HL1, except for about 5 minutes a few years ago.

This thread has inspired me to go ahead and buy HL1 and get on Steam.

Now I just gotta learn some NS skills...
  • Shoot! I bought Half-Life 1 last week for the full price of $10. I could have saved 90% by waiting a week.

After hearing so much about NS, I am gonna give it a shot. I haven't had time to fire it up since I downloaded it. Maybe I will have time tonight.
  • Wow, NS is pretty awesome....and I just got owned by a couple of skulks. Alone. ^_^
  • I wish I had some way of buying this. Throwing dollar bills at my computer won't work, will it?

Go buy a pre-paid credit card.
  • I downloaded and registered for Steam. I bought Half-Life and played a bit of the tutorial. I became very nauseated very fast. -_- I don't think I can ever handle the first-person view.
  • Half-life was a really amazing game. I bought it when it came out, but I never finished it. I ran too low on ammo near the end, and didn't have the wherewithal to start over. I probably won't even play it, but for a dollar, why not?
  • I'm downloading the NS torrent, I'll play this weekend, maybe even try to run a server.
  • Ok, I got it. How to I go about playing NS? I've never installed a mod.
  • You install it, and play it like any other Steam game.
    What did you expect?
  • I thought the instruction on the website were pretty explicit, is there a particular issue you're having?
  • Ok, I got it. How to I go about playing NS? I've never installed a mod.
Download it and run the .exe. It takes care of itself.
  • Well dammit. There goes my dollar. And my social life.
Thanks for the post, I would have missed it.

  • I too was one of the people who bought half life earlier. I bought it a month or so ago. I have to say, I'm glad I did because I got more then $10 worth of entertainment out of it.
  • Just bought it and installed NS and The Specialists. I used to play that at my friend's house years ago. It was pretty fun.

Are you all in the GeekNights group on steam? If so, I guess I'll be playing with some of you soon :)
  • It's amazing how many people simply have not played HL1, one of the greatest and most significant games of all time. It just goes to show you that when a game is programmed to work on modern machines, and doesn't get lost to tech like old DOS games, that it can live forever, especially if mods keep it up.

I know many of you people want to play NS, but really take my advice. If you haven't beaten HL1 on normal, don't play NS yet. You're not going to make it. If you can, play Counter-Strike before playing NS. Counter-Strike isn't a free mod anymore, like it used to be, but many of the fps skills you use in CS translate over to NS.
  • I actually played some of the training room level in Half-Life, and I thought it was still pretty cool. I don't know if I'll ever complete the game or not, but It looks awesome.
  • I'm having problems buying it, Steam changed their billing page, so now the maximum expiration date is 2017, and my friends credit card (the one I used to buy L4D before this happened) expires 2018, so the card gets rejected. Any idea on what to do?

Contact Steam and let them know about the issue.
