Non-Shit-Talk of Your Day

  • Tonight is a non-shit-talk night:

    1. podcast
    2. finish aforementioned book club stuff
    3. continued Project ST work

Earlier, I attempted to work on something ecommerce related, and ended up arguing with a representative of the state for twenty minutes before hanging up in frustration.
  • 1) Clean half of the apartment
    2) Do conference planning
    3) See a whole gang of friends tonight
    4) Write out shopping list (this week's meals include chicken saltimboca and katsudon)
    5) Read more of Solaris
    6) Start NaNoWriMo outlines.
  • Not to pick on you, but...

    Only two of those count.
  • Only two of those count.
Solaris is homework that I've shit-talked about for a week, and my place is covered in the collected refuse of 2 weeks of day and night studying. I think those two count. I'll give you the others, though.
  • I'm gonna finish the first episode first draft of the PokeAudioDramaShow for the FRC and my webpartner to see. I hope a PDF is okay with everyone.

This always reminds me of the Chris Rock standup bit where he gets pissed at people who want credit for shit they're supposed to do. "I feed mah kids!" "What do you want, a fuckin' cookie?!?"

QFT. You want my bullshit shit-talk list from the last few days?

    Cleaned apartment
    Dusted computer
Hung out with a bunch of people at a party
    Finished reading a novel
    Biked all around Manhattan
    Bought new lightbulbs
    Fixed my dresser
Acquired and tested new lights for Project ST
Did a screentest with said lights
    Cooked a nice dinner
    Cooked another nice dinner
    Did laundry
    etc...

Can I count "Synthesized cyclohexene by way of an E1 elimination with purification by fractional and simple distillation" as a non-shit-talk? I did it for a grade, but it took 3 hours. Also, we had around 80% yield and a boiling point elevation of only 2 degrees Celsius.

This is why I didn't say anything this weekend, even though I did a hell of a lot of stuff that I didn't need to, but they all still count as recurring things. To me, when I say I'm going to clean the bathroom or something, and I actually do it, I consider that non-shit-talk, but only because I tend to push that kind of stuff off several weeks from when I should do them.

To the point though, one thing I did do this weekend that I should've done a long, long time ago, was get a small whiteboard to write To-Dos on. The only NST worthy thing on there is "Finish NaNoWriMo Outline", which I have to get done before Thursday.

Panty and Stocking With Garterbelt is the most obvious choice for #1.

It is a glorious work of art. A shining monolith to postmodern achievement.

In all seriousness, I don't know why you hate it so much. It's just Cartoon Cartoons with sex jokes and Gainaxing. It is awesome.

Gainaxing is obnoxious. The sex jokes weren't funny. The POOP jokes were completely ridiculous. I watched the first episode with a group of friends, and we all pretty much agreed that it was stupid and nonsensical and just...Wrong.
  • Did you watch the second half with the fucking TRAIN!?

Shit-talking is all about saying you are going to do something, and then not doing it. However, if that something is your responsibility, then it doesn't count, no matter how awesome it may be. If I'm a fireman, and I save someone from a burning building, that doesn't count as shit-talk or non-shit-talk. It's just doing your job. If you aren't a fireman, and you happen to randomly save someone from a burning building, that also doesn't count, because you didn't say you were going to do it, it just happened.

The point is you need to plan and execute productive activities that are outside the realm of your responsibilities. It doesn't mean the things you do that are your responsibility are not great and awesome. It just means that they have nothing to do with shit talking or not.

I can safely count every episode of GeekNights because it is productive, and it is in no way a responsibility. I could just stop it at any moment.

Have you ever watched Princess Tutu? You are making a gigantic mistake in not doing so.
  • Easy, Geo. He was just giving the context of the reference he was making, not likening Princess Tutu to rape or anything.
  • Have you everwatchedPrincess Tutu? You are making a gigantic mistake in not doing so.
    *facepalm*

It's a Blazing Saddles quote. "You said rape twice. I like rape."

So, instead, "You said Princess Tutu twice. He likes Princess Tutu."

I switched around the words to make a reference to Blazing Saddles. That's the joke.
