Anime that SCARRED you.

edited August 2011 in Anime
So this thread is for posting about the anime that you should not have seen because you were too young. Or something that is just soo awful it dirtied your soul.

Now I have talked about it a few times. But when I was around 13 my 10 year old brother and I rode our bikes to Easy Video. We saw they had some cool animes. We had already rented Ninja Scroll and some of the others, but this new one caught our eye. We had never seen it there before. So we took Urotsukidōji up to the counter. We paid in quarters and then rode our bikes home. Our mom and dad were both at work so we made some hot pockets and popped the VHS in. We wanted to look away. We really did! But we couldn't help it. It held our gaze as if the demons came out and held our eyes open. I died a little that day. The people from Easy Video are going to hell.

  • The 3 eps in Black Lagoon with the psycho children actually gave me a nightmare the night I watched it. Hind sight, watching that at 1 in the morning was probably a bad plan to start.
  • At first, the part in End of Evangelion when the world ends gave me PTSD about my religious life. Tumbling...down...
  • A Serial Experiments Lain marathon put my head in an odd place but no anime has really scared me.
  • The 1.5 episodes of Elfen Lied that I saw at a party (the second episode was eventually booed off the proverbial stage in favor of Excel Saga, which is probably why I have an over all positive attitude toward that show).
  • Paranoia Agent really messed me up the first time I saw it.
  • I thought the Japanese film Suicide Club was pretty freaky.

The more of a bad movie it became, the less scarring it was.

  • When I was really young, like up until ten years old, I was scared of Beauty and the Beast, and I don't know why. Recently, When They Cry, Gantz, and Deadman Wonderland have all freaked me out in a "WOW, talk about blood, no morals, realistic violence, and stuff. I hope nobody is like this!!". Long after, I read the manga of Gantz, and while the story sucks, I realized that there are some real messed up people out there, and that in the most desperate circumstances, we tend not to play the knight. The part of me that expected everyone will play the knight under harsh circumstances died soon after.

Chu-Bra? I have never heard of this. Tell me more. How did it blacken your soul?

    Did you...enjoy...it?
  • I read the first two volumes of Narutaru. I will sum it up as follows:

  • KissxSis. I walked into an anime room at a sci fi con. I walked out in 3 minutes.

Pretty much everything that was on "Saturday Morning Anime" seemed exotic and sometimes scary to me as a little kid. That's pretty much what got me hooked though. MD Geist, Akira, and Armitage stick out in my memory. Demon City Shinjuku, Ninja Scroll, pretty much everything I guess.

But how did it scar you? Urotsukidōji scarred me because of tentcales raping girls and giant penies spliting off into giant hyrda like dicks shooting lasers and thrashing around the city. Dicks smashing through buildings. Girls being raped by demons and TENTCALE RAPE.

    And
    Chu-Bra.
OH GOD WHY DID I NOT BELIEVE YOU! WHY DID I HAVE TO GO TO CRUNCHY ROLL AND TRY TO WATCH AN EPISODE??? WHY GOD WHY? PLEASE SOMEONE PLUCK MY EYES OUT!

  • I wouldn't say I've ever been really scarred by any kind of media, but I did feel pretty empty in a "man, that was intense" kind of way after marathoning Evangelion (including movies) and Kimi ga Nozomu Eien. Not together, they were at separate times, but both resulted in the same weird feeling that needed a day to recover from.

You know, I read the wikipedia article and I thought, "Haha, Clearly this is a parody type show making fun of slice of life shows."
And then I go on crunchyroll. And they play it completely straight. And then I realize, "They weren't actually trying to make an anime, they just wanted to draw girls in underwear all day".

You sir, are a poor, poor fool.
It dared me by existing, and it has proven to be very effective in ruining other people.

Not people I like or want to be friends with, so it's all good in the end.

    WHY
The sad thing is that, somewhere out there, there is some guy watching that show and going "ME GUSTA".
  • That show is probably one of the more profitable ones.

No matter how much we try to deny it, Lotte no Omocha exists.
  • It's kinda hard to scar someone after they're no longer a child. You'd have to get them to open up first, and only then you'd be able to make any damage. We're all on the internet, having a thick skin is somewhat a requirement. Btw, there's this goatse thing, you should totally google it.

Terrible shows can't really do that. There is plenty of terrible hentai that could probably scar you, but you don't really open up emotionally for that, so you can usually just shrug it off, and loose a bit more of your faith in people.

I did not know, that School days was based on a 'visual novel'(wait, you call comics that now?).
    I watched it.
    I opened up.
    It hit me.
I watched it to the end.
I left bruised, but not scarred. But that's as close as it got.
  • What is blood pigeon?

Just a quick heads-up: A visual novel is a computer "game" where you basically read along while the stuff you read is being represented characters with a rudimentary set of expressions, backgrounds, and on occasion you make a decision between a couple of options and perhaps get a special event graphic. A lot of those are dating sims, particularly pornographic ones.

You are confusing it with "graphic novel" which is a fancy name for a comic book.
  • Thanks for clarifying. My memory was playing tricks on me again.
