  • I know, Rule 34 and all, but sometimes you have to think "that's just too weird". NOPE
  • This stuff is bad but, as it still exists, it is not the worst. Truly bad fanfiction gets taken down, and optimally gets the authors arrested.
  • This thread is the wtf of my day, but not in the way that usually means...

None of that hypertext works, either.
  • Yeah I get that sometimes too. I have to do a select all on the page to fix it for some reason.
  • Same here. Never found the select all trick though; I'll have to try that out next time. I think hypertext usually works for me, though.
  • Topless Robot's 5 worst Fan Fiction Fridays. Keep in mind that #5 made me a little physically ill, what with the Incest literal-brainfucking scat rape. You have been warned.

EDIT: from #4: "The throe of desperate passion gave the red turtle to strength for morally justified rape."
    WHY AM I DOING THIS!?
Worst thing for me is that not only I read the top 5 worst on that list, I re-read the worst one when it was redone next week with commentary.

    DeLorean
I meant it was the Fan Fiction of the next Fan Fiction Friday from the point when that article was published. (And now when I think about it, it might have been same week)

  • Top Gun is discussing what would happen after a Nuclear Winter. They were trying to navigate a course by GPS (they blacked out the windows). My problem is that GPS gets confused if there's a cirrus cloud between you and the satellite, so how the hell would GPS function in conditions that would blot out the sun?

You know, that one show, where they drive a lot? Often on a highway, perhaps leading to the...

Well played, Pangloss, but I'm still about as dangerous as the Stig's Chinese cousin right now.

It's Top Gear. I just wish they'd get on with the normal season already. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I miss that oaf Clarkson.

  • Excuse me Sonic, I meant Gear. My bad.
  • S'cool, just try not to do it again or I'll make you sit through all of Top Gear USA.

Good news! Theres going to be a Dacia Sandero II! There is also a christmas special and new season of Top Gear starting next year.
  • Wait wait wait. There's new Top Gear out? I thought they were taking this year off because of some strange reason.
  • As far as I can tell there is a Christmas special and then they are starting up on 2013. I might be wrong but it seems to be on the cards. Im not sure how long they can keep on doing some of the more madcap adventures as they are all starting to get old and falling apart, or violated by gear sticks.
  • Also the budget for that show has to be utterly insane. I'm not sure it is sustainable because it may bankrupt the national government via BBC.

Eh there are more things going that will cause the BBC problems then Top Gear. The budget is large but you actually get good money from it. If you didn't have it then it would probably shunted into making some Gavin and Stacy knockoff to try and make BBC3 seem relavent to the cool kids and fucking BBC4.

Edit; Also our economy isn't that bad.

They make a TON of it back through merch, DVD sales, and Tours. The show doesn't run anywhere close to being in the red, in fact, even with the budget costs, it makes enough of a profit to continue doing what they do.
  • Nope Dave makes a killing out of airing their reruns, their live show is often sold out, there is a waiting list of something like ten years to be in the audience not to mention the viewing figures that they bring in.
  • Yes, I am aware. They are immensely popular and have successfully monetized that popularity even internationally (see Top Gear USA). So despite the BBC's lack of advertisement sales, they are raking in money. I was kidding about them running the BBC into the ground. Also known as being facetious.
  • I could not tell :p.
  • Yeah, I figured the latter part was a joke, I'm more just responding to the first half. The budget is insane, but they got that shit covered.

Doctor who is still done on a pretty tight budget, but more out of tradition than necessity right now.
  • The youtube clip about "That is the joke" should have been a giveaway, indicating that I was joking.

Anyway, yeah. I've been fascinated by their ever increasing budget though. It seems hilariously wasteful of money until you stop and think about it for more than 30 seconds, and realize just how much money can be made off of simple popularity.
  • I dearly wish that they gave BBC4 a decent budget. They have had some great shows going but end up fizzling out. Where as BBC3 is up to the arse trying to find the "next big thing" and missing the point. The last funny thing they did was Cucco, they have either gutted or diluted so much of the stuff that they used to do in favour of appealing to the cool kids.

You'd be surprised at how cheap it is, actually. The cars they're given are loaned to them free by car companies(The BBC doesn't SELL advertising, but having your car on top gear is an opportunity that marketers would give their left nut and/or ovary for, it's literally advertising that money can't buy), and they tend to get the older luxury cars on free loan too. The cheap cars are just that, and the practical effects budget is smaller than you'd think - dropping a car from a crane isn't cheap, but it's hardly breaking the bank, for example.

Really, the biggest expenses are Host Salaries, then Crew, then travel and associated expenses.

I always figured the cars were loaned to them in exchange for free advertising, especially the expensive ones. I mostly meant the travel expenses, since they travel internationally in almost every episode. Of course, being a part of the BBC means that they probably can negotiate some really sweet deals for air travel.
