Convention Scheduling Season

edited October 2013 in Conventions
It's that time of year for the lot of us to go and start planning for next con season, which ones to go to and which ones to drop. I have a few on the list of givens:

A Pax
MAGFest
Connecticon
Local conventions (TMG, ZenKaikon, insert other thing here)

Others in the queue are:

WBC
Anime Boston
Gen Con
Con Bravo (due to the gf)
Burning Con

Any other suggestions for your list?

  • I just can't get myself excited to attend a WBC, even though it's one of the closest board gaming cons. The venue and the crowd just do not seem appealing at all.

I do think that BGG.con would be a pretty fun experience, though, based on what I know of it.

    I added another two maybes:

    ESSEN
    Netrunner World Championship

  • Oh, I'm going to dev even if I'm not speaking next year. I'll pay if I have to.

I keep forgetting about that and Nerdapalooza.

    Burning Con
    MAGFest
    PAX East
    PAX Prime

    The new challengers:

  • I think Fanime is in my future.

I'm gonna go to a few more cons this season:

    MAGFest *first time
    PAX East
    ConnectiCon *haven't been since 2005
    PAX Prime

    I might go to:
    PAX Dev
    PAX AUS
Zenkaikon *is it non-overlapping with PAX next year?
NYCC *probably not, though I might help man a booth

EDIT: Sail, you should go to Fanime. I used to staff that in high school, and it's a pretty good small-ish anime con.

  • I went to a day of NYCC.
I'll be enforcing at PAX East.
    I might go to Zenkaikon.
  • Oh shit, Yosho at CTcon

    My schedule is

    PAX East
    Anime Boston
    ConnectiCon
    Zenkaikon?
    Otakon?

Fall 2014 is yet undetermined, as I don't know where I will be living.
  • Definitely MAGFest, probably PAX East.
  • Magfest
    Zenkaikon
    Pax East
Random other events and conventions as the whim hits.

    PAX is the constant.

PAX East is looking good possibly. Maybe.

I need to go to more cons. I believe Geek Girl Con is this weekend, but there will probably be a lot of anti-PA there and I really don't want to deal with that noise. I understand and somewhat agree, but the whole internet rage against Gabe was overzealous and some people embellished on their vitriol along with claiming they were assaulted at PAX when they weren't. I can't respect you and your position if you lie.

    Emerald City Comic con
    PAX Prime
    MAGFest (goal for 2014)

    MAGfest is a definite!

Not sure where I will be next year. But I will try to go to these:

    Otakon
    Intervention
    SPX
    Anime Boston

And the maybe is Con Bravo. I will very much try.

  • I've got:
Pacific Media Expo (November) - Confirmed
Anime Los Angeles (January) - Panels Submitted
Anime Conji (April) - May or may not submit panels depending on financial and school situation.
Anime Expo (July) - Will submit panels
  • MAGFest
RTX (Rooster Teeth Expo) will likely be a definite, depending on when my group is going to Austin.

Those are the only guarantees, the rest will depend on income.
  • MAG (if Will is up to it)
    PAX East
    Anime Boston
    Connecticon.
  • MAGFest.

Post-college job hunt takes priority for the time being.
  • I'm definitely considering MAGFest. It's probably gonna happen.
I'm thinking about GDC, and to a lesser extent PAX East. The latter is much more difficult to justify during school time, but I know I'll get some help in my classes for going to GDC, since I'll be in all classes for my major where plenty of other students and teachers are going to GDC.
  • This year for me will just be PAX Prime. I have too many other things planned next year that require my money and vacation time.
  • New Challengers may be appearing with Metatopia (Board game designer convention) and Momoiticon (in NC for a friend of mine).
  • Berlin Juggling Convention
    European Juggling Convention
Any other juggling convention that wants me as an invited guest.
  • New Challengers may be appearing with Metatopia (Board game designer convention) and Momoiticon (in NC for a friend of mine).
Escapist Expo is another NC con looking like it could grow into something really cool.

As for Metatopia, I've crossed all of the Double Exposure-run cons off of my list now that I've moved further than 15 min away from the hotel. I'm really not a fan of how they run those things, although Metatopia seems to have the best attendees due to the designer factor.

  • IROS, RSS, and maybe CVPR
  • hmmm.. Tora-Con, PAX East and Zenkaikon are all two weeks apart from each other in a role.. I may use this as an excuse to go to Rochester next year (all three were on the same freaking weekend last time)
  • Has anyone else been to GenCon? We're thinking about going this year.

    CTcon
    MAGFest
  • My dad loved it. It's got a lot of stuff you won't see anywhere else, apparently.
