  • I finally got my parent's HBO Go account. They were never going to sign up for it, and when I begged them to, they ran into all sorts of issues with trying to sign into HBO w/ a secondary login from their cable provider. Turns out the primary login was something I set up when we got cable internet and I was still living w/ them in high school 12 years ago. I had access the whole time!!!

In other boo-yah TV viewing news, I did set up an antenna last month, but I never perfected the alignment. Looked up the broadcast angles, and went up into the attic w/ a compass to set the direction properly. Now everything from NYC comes in crystal clear HD. Even getting some Philly channels b/c it's almost 180 degrees in the opposite direction. Only thing giving me problems is spotty PBS from North/Northwest NJ.
  • Fail: Was too tired to finish MAGfest...
Boo-yah: after a whole week of awesome.
Boo-yah: Had a great sunday just lounging around the house with GF and rebuilding my computer with a SSD.
  • How you liking the speed?

    It is many more betters.
  • Booyah: Sent out my first major application, to a Brewery seeking a Digital Media Specialist. Really reinforces my skills and diploma for the job market.

Fail: I accidentally sent the mail too early by trying to indent hitting "Tab" and sending it by pressing the damn spacebar. It doesn't look awful, but...it's just a little odd. I got so pissed off and frightened. Whoever established gmail to work this way from how it used to be should be slapped in the face.

Need to psych myself up and get over it...but damn.
  • Booyah; Today is the last day of my crappy night job. From 0700 today I will be able to see the sun!

Fail; I have no job lined up to go into and am shitting bricks as to whether I will be able to find something that will let me save for travel next year.

Sort of Booyah; Going to use this time to build a load of stuff that I have had to put on the back burner. First off is a set of shelfs and carving a bench from a log.
  • Boo-yah: 90 on my philosophy paper.
Fail: Parking denied my appeal. $65 to the university's coffers.
  • Double Fail: They put the wrong last name on the decision notice.

Double Fail: They put the wrong last name on the decision notice.

Then it doesn't apply to you. It's some other guy with a made up name.

  • Boo-yah: I got up super to drive to Miami to do visa stuff for Japan. The sun was rising over the St. Johns River and was super pretty, and the drive was not unpleasant...
Fail:...until I realized that I forgot my ID. Which meant driving back the hour I just drove. Plus the eight hour round trip I still have to make (because time is of the essence since my school just got me the info I needed to finish the application).
  • Aaaand now traffic is at a standstill because of an accident.
  • Boo-Yah: Got a sweet piece of freelance work lined up for me with the state's community college system. The main job I applied for is still up in the air, but the person I specifically talked to practically guaranteed me some work.

Fail: In order to get that work, I have to sign up with the state's employment agencies and register myself as an individual. This involves getting a DUNS number and I'm still waiting on getting a response on that...
  • Boo-Yah: New job is going really well nailing the training and learning loads.
Fail: its close too two hours commute at the moment with a half an hour walk and train journey all of which means I have to get up stupidly early and get back stupidly late. Which gargles balls. Also the loos at work don't flush properly whisking away the paper and leaving brown trouts at the bottom of the bowl.
  • Today's lunch is both at once. Went to lunch with my coworkers today. Most of lunch was normal Japanese food and super tasty. Then they brought out a still-living squid draped in his buddy. Still wriggling and everything...for a while. After it died, they took it away and fried it (which was also really good). I don't really like my food looking at me like that.

Just curious, but what was the point of bringing it out until it dies before cooking it?
  • So it looked pretty?
  • Boo-yah: got laid after a party.
Fail: It turns out that you get pretty bad at sex when you're drunk. :P
  • Yeah, that'll happen.
  • Boo-yah: Stopped a fire.
Fail: Fire watch every hour now.
Boo-yah: Getting commendations for stopping said fire.
Fail: Gonna make it that much more difficult for them to let me go come August.
  • Boo-yah: Gaslight Anthem is coming to town
Fail: It's in September, so finding someone to go with will be a pain.

Fail: First week back at work and I'm doing my old job. All OT done must be doing my old job.

I was pumped to start doing my new job, but must wait until next week.

Boo-Yah: The view from my new desk (if I turn around):

  • It seems like Guardians of the Galaxy is a s good as I hoped and it seemed like to be, and it's still a goddamn month until it shows up in cinemas in my part of the world.

Well, at least it isn't the four months german speaking regions had to wait for The Lego Movie.

Boo-Yah: Extremely productive In Your Ear run earlier this week. Found an extremely rare Nilsson album, and an unfathomably obscure David Sancious album.

Fail: The Sancious album is scratched, warped, and cracked. The find of the year was not a find at all.

  • It's my last evening in Germany. On the one hand I'm ready to get back to my home where my stuff is, but on the other I'm really going to miss being in Europe.
  • Boo-Yah: Because of recommendations and praise from previous bosses and colleagues, I've been assigned special duties in my team for being the liaison for secondary retrieval of federal records.

Fail: I was only notified of this from an email that was sent out to the team before even consulting or asking me. Also additional duties for a new hire? It will take me 6 months to a year to be fully comfortable and up to par on my current duties. It's quite difficult for me right now.

    Sigh. Positive punishment.
  • This was today's Basic Instructions comic:

  • Boo-yah: finished riveting the first of many airplane parts I will likely be building in the next few years. This particular one is to be load tested under 1600lbs of sand or more: basically until it shows critical structural failure or we run out of sand.

Fail: During riveting I dropped a solid steel bucking bar on my ankle bone and it's probably going to swell up and prevent me from moving around much for a few days, and this weekend I'm supposed to go paintballin and help kids go flying for free with the EAA, and both pretty much require working feets.

    Awesome! What are you building?

  • Awesome! What are you building?

The horizontal to a 68% scale Hellcat, but as we want to get it finished sooner, and on a more reasonable budget, thinking of moving to a 55% scale and building a matching Hellcat and Zero.

Designed it all from the ground up.

Oh wow, that is pretty awesome... I assume this will be a working, flying scale model?
