  • Does anyone else have the Soy Sauce expansion for Sushi Go? If not, I can bring.

Wha? Such thing exists? Gotta find that and buy it.

I like how everyone else is doing all the research for me and I don't have to do a damn thing. Feels good not to have to be the responsible one as much during conventions. However, I feel that will still happen when we all go out to eat.

Herding fucking cats. All of you.

Edit: Only on Ebay or BGG. T_T

I was having a conversation with my lady last ngiht that is semi relevant here... She is great at pre-planning, looking things up, making reservations, etc. I am a specialist when it comes to dealing with stuff on the fly.

Think of all this prep work being done by others as making your on site job that much easier.

    #TeamWork

And holy fuck. I just looked at the weather in San Antonio. I'm from Southern California. I am not built for that kind of mess. Wait. I'm Norwegian. Carry on. =D

  • Guidebook is live!
  • For those that partake in alcoholic beverages. Be sure to have a Margarita and or Mexican Martini while in San Antonio. Chips and salsa with drinks is also recommended.
  • Badge arrived. I'm gonna have me some fun.

    Badges are here. Soon.

If anyone else wants to go, it's not too late. Badges are going for below retail value on the secondary market now. The San Atonians. They do not yet know!

I've been looking into the area around the convention center, and I must say, they definitely picked a great location for the Final PAX. This is going to be one hell of a show.

I don't think it's that they don't know. I think it's simply that there aren't enough nerds within travel radius.

    Yee haw!

If space were not an issue, PAX East would by FAR be the biggest PAX. I still strongly belive 50-60k unique per-day badges would sell out immediately They could probably sell 80k 3-day badges easily.

Prime would probably be second biggest. It has the cachet of being the original Rome. East and Prime don't really compete, but simply co-exist. Prime is the wealthier and more travel-ready gamers, while East is the everyman PAX. The travel time/cost to Prime or East, for most people, isn't really different from the travel to Texas.

Aus is third, and will self-sustain as the only game in town effectively indefinitely. Just as good a show as East, but accessible to Australia and Asia Pacific.

South, I suspect, will cater primarily to:

    1. Locals too poor to travel to other PAXes
    2. Locals who would travel to other PAXes but can't due to badges selling out
    3. Game industry types who can't afford to be at Prime/East
    4. Local game industry types

I think it will always be the weakest PAX. It'll be the "second choice" for people who fail to get a Prime/East badge/hotel. If I lived in Texas, I'd go to Prime and South every year. Since I live in New York, I'll just go to Prime and East every year.

I don't know if I can sustain going to four PAXes a year to perform (plus Dev, anime cons, MAGFest, ConnectiCon, etc...).

  • That assessment checks out. However, due to its size, PAX South 2015 will likely have the greatest FRC attendance by percentage.
  • Oh if anyone has an extra Saturday badge and floor space, we have a cool friend we all made at Prime that needs things. Let me know.

Seriously, she's awesome. ScRym, Emily, Pence, Jeremy, and myself totally vouch for her.
  • I've got an extra 3-day, no dice on a Sat-only badge, though.
  • I can run it past my girlfriend but I'm sure we could put her up. No dice on a Saturday badge. Heck, even my girl doesn't have one. Maybe they can keep each other company while we are paxing?

MAGFest has the most FRC attendance these days. Next year it will probably have near-100%.
  • Also some of the early PAX east, had a large % of FRC

I am interested what the attendance is going to be like, will it be a slightly more intimate PAX or will it still feel freaking huge? I am glad that I decided to go to a PAX in its inaugural year, there may not be another opportunity to do that.

Also, I will probably have two 3-day badges available, let me know if there is a need. They will otherwise go to waste so I'd rather they get used.

I predict that PAX Prime badges will reach a new level of scarcity (if that is even possible). What was the first thing I did when I went to PAX East? I ran home and made arrangements to PAX Prime. I'd been trying to get to PAX forever (even cancelling reservations for PAX 07 when the plans fell apart), and going to East confirmed that I was really missing out. No more excuses.

South sounds just like that inaugural Hynes East. It won't sell out until the event starts, meaning it's heavily locals. They're gonna get a taste and go home wanting a ticket up to the mothership.

  • Interesting. Having smaller events simply as advertisements for the big event. Connecticon has Member Appreciation Days. MAGFest does a lot of JAMSpaces. Not that PAX needs to advertise, but this is a good strategy for others to follow.
  • This PAX South is the PAX to do cool crazy things in public spaces like running an Action Castle.

I completely agree that this is a great model for cons to follow, just not one for PAX. Repeat attendance is not actually something at PAX wants. They don't want people going to all 4 shows. They want you to go to your local PAX, have all PAXes sell out anyway, and maximize the number of unique bodies they can have pass through the cons. While PA and PAX have been drifting apart, it's still very much the Penny Arcade Expo, and a chance for them to keep their hooks in their fans, sell merch, etc.

Yes. Yes it is. And there are some gorgeous public spaces in and around the con. It backs up to a very large former World's Fair park, there is a riverwalk grotto area underneath, and there is plenty of unused space within the convention center itself that I'm sure can be gotten into one way or another, and taken over by attendees.

  • Excitement officially beginning, one week before my plane lands...

I just went through the schedule, and it's pretty much the keynote plus the Omegathon finale. Matt: it sounds like the city will provide plenty of entertainment. And, most importantly, dinners.
  • Dinner is one factor that makes PAX Aus more fun than PAX East. Aus has food options on par with Prime.

I am still salivating over the meal I had during PAX East at Gather. It only opened last year. That area of Boston keeps growing, and I expect there will be more great food coming with it.

  • Also, I think I have created a new record for most posts in a row with a typo on this forum. I will forever wear the red badge of editing.

If that happens, tweet out the info. I would totally drop what I am doing to participate.
  • So... about being proud that you've never visited a state that was part of the former Confederacy... :P
