Need good anime wall paper site

edited November 2007 in Anime
I cant seem to find a good wallpaper site. Theotaku.com is limited to only the most popular animes while others like animepaper.net requires contributions to keep downloading. 4chan has some good ones, but there is no search feature as far as i can tell and finding anything specific is a nightmare, any ideas?

  • THIS PLACE.

A Google search could answer this as well.

I've tried but google image search is very bad and pulls up things completely unrelated. Regular search just takes me back to the same 2 sites that req contributions to dl. Animewallpapper is a good place but it doesnt have some of the more obscure animes. :(

  • If you want something specific on 4chan just /r/ it.

My god, people. Learn to fucking Google for the stuff you want.

Mind if we change this into a thread for posting sites with high resolutions images? It's kind of hard to find high enough resolution images to print good DVD labels for anime and such.
    iichan.net <-- Also good.

  • Ick, this is starting to turn into another trashy 4chan thread...
  • We're just linking to them. If you come to complain about a thread then why not just stay out and let others have their fun.
  • edited November 2007
Because if people, such as myself, don't pipe up every once in a while then it will only get worse.

And besides, the topic of this thread does not call for 4chanery the way that "Favorite Inspirational Posters" does. I feel I am justified in my assertion. Perhaps I am being a Nazi, but there's a reason I come to a site like this over a site like 4chan.

  • Well you could do your bit to point it in the right direction by posting your links to high res picture websites.
  • edited November 2007
There's only one high-res picture website you'll ever need.

    Here's the template:
"[insert name of anime here] wallpaper"
    Showing>Large images

    Enjoy.

  • Good for wallpapers and softcore porn I will grant you but not the best.
Animephile = audio/videophile + anime reviews. Pictures are pretty though.
  • Since when does linking to image boards ending in 'chan' equal to 4channery, i.e. acting as if on 4chan /b/? Sail. stop overreacting. 4chan is mostly /b/ yes, but not everything is. Image boards are great places for images.

Anyways, I agree that for the best wallpapers you should look for (an) image board(s). iichan, 4chan, whathaveyouchan (safeguard: this one doesn't exist afaik). A good way to get wallpapers on those kind of sites is either digging through the hundreds of pages of images, or, if the site only has a set number of pages and destroys everything that gets on page max_page+1, then post a wallpaper of the anime you want and say something along the lines of "ITT: [insert anime title] wallpapers." If you have no wallpapers of the anime you want, Google works probably just as well as a request board. I myself love /w/ and /wg/ on 4chan. The mentality is nothing like that on /b/ and you can actually browse through the pages and actually see different threads.

Just so you know, I object to all of 4chan, not just /b/. My point is that having a thread for posting images is very 4chanish.

I don't like the imageboard format. That's why I go to a text forum. Now, get on with your thread...

Fixed for better reflection of Sail's opinion. If you have something about the posting of images. WTF!? I personally have more problems with the behaviour and comments alongside various offensive images on /b/. I have no problem with other images posted on the other boards on 4chan, or whatever image board there is. I can even say I have more problems with your Russia wallpaper then with the images I found 3 days back on 4chan's /wg/ which made the Digg frontpage yesterday. And what about the post a picture of yourself thread? Or the post a picture of your pets thread? Those a threads for posting images and did you not post in both with an image?

    Exactly.

I over-simplified my position on image boards. You are right, I did participate in those threads. But you can't tell me that they are equivocal to the type of image posting on, say, /e/. You brought in the offensiveness issue. I do not get offended easily, but I also do not enjoy being assaulted by a random penis image. This is a blanket statement, but part of the whole image board model is an encouragement of obscenity and humor over discussion. I prefer discussion.

You can not equate a thread here about wallpapers to a thread of the same topic on 4chan. While the former's intention is more about editorial and comment, the latter is about getting a download. Same topic, different intention. Again a blanket statement, but one I find to be generally true.

There is a big difference between asking for good anime wallpaper sites and asking for images. I go back to one of my previous posts:

[Edit] After reflection, I've realized that I was definitely over-reacting to linking to image boards. The thread is intended to give ideas about where to find images. Sorry, I was wrong and I admit it.

This does not, however, make the above statement any less valid. They were just argued in the wrong situation.

[insert Sail's post, mentioning of /e/ and important edit line]
I agree that image threads here on the FRC forums are not equivocal (I will probably forget the meaning of this word the moment I close the dictionary.com tab) to images posted on a NSFW board. Since nobody here wishes to see NSFW images of the members or their pets on here. No matter how good looking they might be.

I slightly disagree on the next part though. One can find "HEY! Look at my desktop! It is awesome. Post your desktops too plzkthx." on image boards and here (though here it'll be better worded and less '1337'). I do agree that you might get helpful comments here as opposed to a random image board (No, I do not mean /b/), for instance, one might actually tell you how to get x on your desktop.

To your last line before the edit tag. Meh, see you edit.

Concerning your Edit tag and the inserted comment there. Darn you! I shall never accept you being younger then me. You act too wise for your age from time to time. Crazy kids these days. (j/k) I think this is also the first time I've ever seen someone admit they were wrong on the internets. *gets a bus filled with Japanese people here and lets them take pictures of this happening* Give them 3 minutes.

(edit to remove one < blockquote > tag)

Getting back to the point of the topic: I find that the best quality wallpapers tend to come from the personal gallery sites of people who are talented at wallpaper creation. You definitely get more consistent quality if you have a site full of papers all by the same person/small group of people. Here are the wallpaper sites that are in my bookmark list:

Mercurial Design (love this person's style) - http://www.mercurialdesign.net
Imanimations (also includes great Photoshop tutorials!) - http://www.imanimetions.net
DA! Desktop Anime (lots of really good vector trace papers) - http://www.desktopanime.com
Ningen's Anime Wallpapers (again, love their style) - http://ningen.nattoli.net
Shinndou (fairly new site, but lookin' real good) - http://www.shinndou.com

Why are people on the Internet so hard headed about things? Sometimes you're wrong. It happens. Deal with it, admit that it's true, and learn from the experience. I really hate this "Don't dare admit there might be a smidgen of truth in what the other guy is saying" attitude.
This is an edit to add a bit:
I realized looking at this post that it looking like I was targeting Sail exclusively, and that's not what I meant to do. I mean in general, on the internet there is this feeling like two rams butting heads and neither will give an inch, and I just cannot understand such an attitude.

  • Because words on a screen don't answer back.
  • There's always the wallpaper section of DeviantArt.com. That's where I usually go.
  • I'll second DeviantArt.com, it's slow as hell but there are lots of talented people there.

I like this place, animepaper.net you have to register and it limits downloads/day. You can browse all you want, don't register if you don't see stuff you like.
  • Most "anime wallpaper sites" are really shady and scummy, stealing art and trying to make money with obnoxious advertising.
  • I think that was kind of the point of asking here. Most here would tend to be tech savvy enough to avoid "really shady and scummy" sites.

It's running old and hacked-together Danboru code, looks like.

I thought Danbooru was open source. Problem with sites like this is the amount of bandwidth they push, might be the problem.

*searches for Kino no Tabi, SQL error, back, search Kino, ???, Profit!* YAY! Thanks. Very nice site.

EDIT: Hmmm, one has to manually changes spaces into underscores. Great [/sarcasm]

  • Apparently the site will have an sql error if you have any spaces in your search. This is bad coding.
