edited November 2007 in Video Games
Tonight on GeekNights, we discuss what we would do if we were somehow handed a Nintendo development kit. In the news, Mario 3 is released for the Wii Virtual Console, and Child's Play launches.
Scott's Thing - Now You're Thinking with Portals

I was disappointed when I realized it was a spelling mistake. My fantasy Nintendo dev kid would strap on a Power Glove and a Virtual Boy and create games with his mind.

  • So, has the Portal porn started yet? I expect to see a Penny Arcade comic where someone has the portal gun and puts a portal inside their pants (front) and puts the second portal inside a pair of girls pants. Or anything along those lines.

You obviously didn't look at my thing of the day.
  • I can't. Work filters...
  • While looking at the site, The people who make the filters must have seen me and it's now blocked. I was on page 6, I hope the last 2 pages aren't funny...

*Shakes fist at filterers* (Please don't punish me further by blocking any more stuff, I'll give you cake.)

The pic is insinuating portal rape which is of no use because essentially it's a very similar environment for the man junk but you still have to look at the obese woman while having sex.
Half LIfe in 60 seconds was really quite awesome and probably disturbing, in that very few video games have a good original story or plot.

Yes, it has. Suffice to say, it's all rather odd, and mostly involves the Companion Cube.
  • I was a little sad you guys never brought up PacMan VS in your discussion. I felt that was a great example that you could have used in how Nintendo has started to use the DS in importing old games that needed wireless when they came out.

Pac-Man vs. for DS is good but it's not quite as polished and perfect as the original for GCN.
  • Great show!

Your Half-Life in 60 seconds impression made me burst out laughing in the street, an old woman looked at me disapprovingly.
  • I checked out the portals link over lunch. I saw the one with the fat chick, what I did not see is one with a gay guy holding one portal in front of him and the other up to his ass, Unless I did not look far enough.

OMG! I'm just now finishing the fourth Temeraire book! Rym and I were reading the same book at the same time!

I have The Terror at home. Maybe I should start reading that now.

  • OMG! I'm just now finishing the fourth Temeraire book!Oh snap the end!  It was all right throughout, but the last few chapters were quite a frantic and sudden twist that I suppose I should have seen coming.  Sigh... Now I'm forced to wonder for however long it will take her to write another.

I just hope that when they make the inevitable movie, they don't screw it up. I think I read at one point that Peter Jackson was going to do it.

That's kind of a heavy book to take on the train. I was leaning more towards the Monster Island trilogy.

  • "You mean inside Scott's pants week?--end music"

That was the funniest thing I have ever heard.

I suspect the reason Nintendo keeps such a short leash on third party developers has to do with when it entered the gaming industry. The post-Atari collapse that was going on when they entered the market was brought on almost entirely by a glut of crappy 3rd-party games for the system.

Yes, but as we point out, there already is a huge glut of crappy 3rd-party games for the system, but it doesn't seem to be hurting it. Seriously, look at the DS shelves at your local GameStop. Mostly 3rd party crap. Also, the PS2, the most successful console, was loaded with 3rd party crap. Didn't seem to hurt it at all. 3rd party crap killed Atari because of shit like E.T. Now the measures in place to prevent another E.T. are actually just blocking all the small and innovative games. Hopefully WiiWare will fix this.
  • Did anyone donate to Child's Play yet? I scored a Pokemans copy to a hospital in Toronto :)

Whenever you're thinking with portals, be sure to pay your respects to the forefather.
