The first ADSL standard wasn't approved until 1998, and that would have provided a pretty minimal level of streaming ability relative to today's cable lines and FiOS, so I'm going to go out on a limb here and say "no."
We were streaming media with RealPlayer back in 1995. Even then, I was aware that the future of all media was streaming. It was painfully obvious to anyone who spent more than five seconds thinking about it. Bandwidth was guaranteed to rise at rates similar to EVERY OTHER ASPECT OF COMPUTING!
Probably, but I still don't think that's why they chose the name.
Y'know, you and Scott have said this repeatedly, but neither of you have ever (that I've seen at least) elaborated on why. I am genuinely curious, as it seems like a perfectly reasonable service to me.
I was. Unlike you barbarians, I had one of the first cable modems, and a surprisingly fast modem before that. I actually, really, truly was streaming audio and video back then, and played Quake with a 15ms ping.
Suck it. ;^)

I have almost no interest in any of the shows there, and the few I do, there's no back catalogue. Couple this with the fact that even if I pay, I'll still see ads, and it's a no-deal.
I enjoy very little television at any given time.
Current running shows I actually enjoy: My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic Archer The Daily Show South Park Nichijou Futurama
Current running shows I plan to actually enjoy: Game of Thrones
Recent mainstream American TV shows I've enjoyed in the last several years: Dexter (seasons 1 and 2 only, not including the middle of season 1) Simpsons (up until about 2001) Family Guy
Netflix has almost any show I'd care to watch and no ads.
Rym, you should definitely check out Breaking Bad. I think you'd appreciate it.
And that. I tried to watch the first episode with Nuri and Moe in the living room doing law school work. Three minutes later: "Pete, can we watch something a little less...intense?" That's how I know it's my kind of show.
Wilfred
And this one - the American one is quite enjoyable, and I like Elijah Wood, so I'ma watch that one.
EDIT: And I'll be looking forward to the new season of Arrested Development.

Yeah well, having some guy Blair Witching all over the TV screen is hella distracting.

It got boring after the first two episodes. I couldn't keep watching it because it was the same old joke over and over. I mean, the first episode was great, but the gag got stale pretty quick.
I just watched all of The Walking Dead season 1 on Netflix instant. For some reason it was much better than I remembered. Can't wait for the new episode!
I actually do plan to watch Breaking Bad, but I've had some equally trustworthy people hate on it. Game of Thrones has had universal praise (in television form at least: the books get 50/50 love/meh from my usual sources of review).
Game of Thrones > Breaking Bad. I've only seen the first 3 episodes of Breaking Bad. I've enjoyed what I've seen for most part, however the character of the wife and her sister are beyond annoying. They are the typical adult females of the world that I really don't ever want to associate with.

I have heard that, not the case with ours - it doesn't even make the joke at the start, it's just "Oh, you're a dog? Cool, alright, sweet, on with the show." It's less of a straight up comedy than a drama with comedy on top, like the fondant on a sculpture care - sure, the comedy is what gives it shape and definition, but most of what you're chewing on is drama cake. And we do good dramas.

Also, yay Atlanta!
I plan on watching The Walking Dead soon enough.
