The sole gem in the actual beta episode itself is the very end. I end it saying something like "this was a bad one." Scott replies "you ruined it with one of your stupid arguments!" I start to exclaim "WHAT DO YOU MEAN ONE OF MY STUP-" and then the audio cuts out.
I can't wait for the blue blog, Scott was really into social sites. I'm waiting for that IPV6 switch flip. The Oz reference. Became quite annoying to listen to babies fighting about who reads more / knows more.
I remastered a new one. This one is special: it's the first episode that sounds like GeekNights. It's the turning point where we started to figure this stuff out.
Caylus: If you want to know how real the hype was, this is a contemporary board game geek thread: Facts about Caylus
Caylus would be in first place, except that it doesn't have a wharf.
Caylus would eventually hit #3 in the BGG top 100, before dropping to its current place at 28. Puerto Rico would fall from #1 to 6.
Power Grid/Funkenschlag as we know it was released in 2004 - Erweiterung means expansion. That was the France/Italy map. I can't find any evidence that Power Grid was at Essen Spiel in 2004, though...
Also notable at Essen Spiel in 2005: Timbuktu, and a 300-copy print run of Jenseits von Theben, the predecessor of Thebes.
I remember them making so big a deal about hubs when I got my CCNA. Number of hubs encountered in the field during my professional carrier as a (among other things) netadmin: 0

And before you ask why I have a CCNA, got it in highschool, pre RIT before I was sure I was gonna get accepted to a university (highschool is a weird time)
Son, I administered Token Ring networks. I configured SNMP monitoring of a MAU. I've used 10Base2 Ethernet. I've physically placed a vampire tap for 10Base5. I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched c-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate.

One day I need to buy you a drink, I have a brain to pick.

If you're not a backer, the commentary only (sans episode) is up for the plebs!

Getting closer to the launch! This is the last episode with the logitech stick microphone too!
17 minutes is a bit long for an intro for 40 minutes of audio.
