The God Delusion

So, I've finally gotten my hands on a copy of The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins.

While I'm not exactly the target audience, I thus far find his assertions to be fully compatible with my own, and I find no fault in his argument. I highly recommend this book to any literate human being.

Has anyone else read it?

  • I am in the middle of reading it and thus far it is definitely worth the purchase.
  • I haven't read it yet but this week's On The Media had an interesting segment on atheism in America and he was one of the invited commentators. While I can understand the sentiments behind his actions and agree with him on many levels whenever you come out and say that tolerance is a bad thing you're treading on dangerous ground. I'll definitely have to put this book in my library queue, though.
  • I finally got my hands on this book. I have to say, it is absolutely wonderful. I never thought I would describe a book as wonderful, but I am enjoying it with all my heart. And it's an excellent thing to have on hand when being flanked by a fundamentalist ^_^ I have never felt prouder or more right to be an atheist.

I figured that this would be an okay thread to resurrect, since full-on discussion of this book has not yet occurred in the forum. Also, everyone has had a chance to read it by now.
  • I bought it and I'm half way through it. It's great, but it's more of an affirmation book to me and thus not compelling. I picked up an excellent biography on Napoleon and I'm absorbed in it.
  • Perhaps it is more compelling to me because I have been an atheist a much shorter time than most people here. 8 months as a matter of fact!
  • I just picked up a copy - and its on my list to read after I'm done with my current Book - Company by Max Barry - but I'm looking forward to it.
  • I just want to chime in and say that Max Barry is a cool author. His last book Jennifer Government was great.
  • Agreed - Max Barry has had a pretty consistent standard of awesome so far.
