I've been blog scraped!

edited January 2007 in Everything Else
I can't believe it!

I was looking at referral links on my blog and I saw one from Digg. I did not recognize it so I checked it out as I wanted to see who submitted my blog to Digg. Boy was I in for a surprise!

Someone scrapped one of my blog entries, changed one link, and the story hit the front page of Digg!

The wordpress blog that stole my material has since been removed for TOS violations.

The funny thing is that I found out about someone stealing my content earlier this morning when a different blog was talking about the now banned blog and one of the comment leavers left my URL as the original source.

I can understand drawing inspiration but out right copying like this? Does this mean I'm a real blogger if others are now stealing from me?

Of course the worst part is that they got the Digg for my story!

  • Many shady operations will scrape content in order to pad out their site and provide the semblance of real content in order to raise their pagerank with Google.
  • I have no problem with people "sampling" some of my content as long as they provide a link back but this goes way beyond that! In fact, one of my first entries to get on Digg and make the Homepage was quickly copied onto about 60 other blogs, but they all gave a link back as to the source of the article... At least the ones I found did!

This is why I often check the referrer links on my server.
  • I've had several product reviews I've done get copied by other sites without my permission, but, frankly, if they give me credit and link back to my blog, I could not care less. What happened to you, though, stinks.
  • Creative Commons ftw.
  • I contacted Digg and they removed the Digg entry. I asked them to either remove it or re-link it.

I do believe in Creative Commons WITH attribution!

It's all about the attribution. Although, you could think of it like this. Most people's blogs are shit. Yours was good enough to get plagiarized. No one's ever plagiarized my blog.

  • I've been doing some web searching and this plagiarism bit has cost be tons of traffic!

Not only did the plagiarised post hit Diggs front page, it was also on that Netscape site.
I have found numerous de.lic.us bookmarks for the plagiarised post as well as a shit-ton of StumbleUpon traffic for it!!!

I am just going insane over this!

We use "s" in plagarise over here. I accept the rest of my punishment with grace.
  • I'd say Mr. Period should leave valid Brit/Aussie spellings alone. ^_~
  • Racist bloody punctuation mark... should throw him out of here like Tamworth throws out Sudanese refugees...
