    Funny enough, Voyager got into that territory when they discovered the holograms that were sentient and being kept as slave labor.

    Actually, I there was also a Star Trek: Next Generation episode, "Second Chances", which presents the problem of a transporter double and what to do about him.

    And in the reverse, there was the Voyager episode, "Tuvix," about the ethics of re-separating two people who were genetically mixed a la "The Fly" in a transporter accident.
