I was at the local Second-hand book shop, when I saw a copy of half-life and just that afternoon I heard I heard Rym and Scott talk about. Something about different color that equals a different version. The game cost $20 and some dollars. It has an orange border so it's a complete version.
So I want a good explanation and reason convincing me why I should buy it. I've played some Quake and America's Army PC games and Lots of FPS for Game Cube.
Thanks

Now, on whether you should buy it or not. Half-Life one of the defining games in the FPS single player genre. It has an intricate story and a wonderful immersion factor. It was also the game that spawned the infamous Counter-Strike mod. Personally, I would say it is one of the games that every game enthusiast should play at some point in their life.
Point of information - Counterstrike is no longer a free mod. It, too, costs $9.95. If there is some other way to get it for free, let me know, 'cause I wanna play me some shootin' games, dagummit.
It sucks that he won't let me even though I'm 16.
Also, you're going to need to get lots of mods for it (and there are lots of mods for it). I suggest, after Natural Selection and CS (they sell it at Half Price Books for ten dollars, and it's worth every penny), They Hunger, Brain Bread (zombie mods), The Specialists (a Matrix mod that kicks ten flavors of awesome) and Vampire Slayers (a mod where you work as a lowly fry-cook for McDonalds).
Is the Day of Defeat from the new Half-Life source engine any good? I play Call of Duty UO (I'm into WW2) and was wondering if Day of defeat is comparable or great.
