It is supposedly available for purchase in 18 months.

  • Why the general public would need a 80 core processor is beyond me. I can see a use in by corporations that are running complicated math functions and the sort but use in the home I don't really see a reason for it. It is really neat to see them pushing our current technology forward and I would like them to use this to making our technology smaller and use less power. You can have the fastest computer in the world but if it uses a nuclear reactor to run it is it really worth the power to do so?

  • New high-end technology usually result in cheaper and downgraded versions for the public that are still a great improvement to current technology. This is great news!
  • This reminds me of a story my CS prof told me. He said when he was in high school (1970's I believe) the newest school computers had 128 kilobytes of RAM. He remembered how everyone kept saying that there was absolutely no way a home computer would ever need more than that. Look where we are now.

If you told people 5 years ago that there would be dual processor's, they would have laughed. I think the same thing will happen with a situation such as this. Eventually, they will become common.

    Basically the same as WaterIsPoison.

  • really all I am saying is right now I wouldn't release it to the general public being the regular home user till there is a need for it. Right now the current processors out can easily run anything out right now. Maybe step up and release x amout of cores when needed instead of a 80 core right of the bat.

Why do the chip manufacturers care if there is a need? They only care about selling chips and making a profit.
