just showed my dad this thread, and he pointed out that "There have been so many violent cases where video games are the culprit" is not one of his reasons (my mistake.) In fact, his main reason is "You're a growing boy. We don't want you to become isolated to this one machine". I'm currently forming a rebuttal. Any ideas?
Wow, did he say anything about "OMG, what are you doing on the internet, there could be rapists and stuff there?" I mean, I'm 19 and whenever I tell my parents stuff that we talked about on the boards they always give me this look like "What? Your going to get murdered by someone there." They can't understand the internet no matter how hard I try to explain it to them.

Well, they won't let me get internet access on my Ubuntu box in my room. The tides may turn for that matter, though, as I'm explaining the nesessity of internet access with Ubuntu.

Well the closest things to video games my parents play are the old arcade standards pinball and skeeball, not sure if those count as video games though.
My dad was the best Tetris player I've ever met in person. My mom played her Atari 2600 while she was pregnant with me. My stepdad loves his PS2 and various PC FPSs. My grandmother adored her Intellivision II, and was better at BurgerTime than -I- ever was. My grandfather on the other side had his own Atari that he played almost every day. My uncle was really into text adventures and assorted PC games.
