My grandmother has an accountant because her finances are complicated. Mine aren't but her accountant does my taxes too, it takes him about 5 minutes and i don't have to do anything but keep receipts.
"I do not think that word means what you think it means."
Being a little pedantic, but I think you meant to say "abstruse" when discussing the US tax code. Definition here:
When trying to understand the tax code, I am made to feel obtuse.
Turbo Tax was great for me until I bought a building with rental units and began to run my business out of my home. My accountant is worth every penny I pay him...
I go the same little old lady at the same HR Block every year. I take in my w2's from work, my mortgage, and my 2nd mortgage. I tell her how much my union dues are, how much I spent on tools for the year, and how much I donated. 15 minutes later she tells me I'm getting about $3500 back, and a week later it's in my bank account.
That said, I would prefer a flat tax. Hell, I'm losing more than 40% of my income to taxes.
And don't get me started on those union dues. Our union doesn't do shit for us except take out money. And it's a closed shop. On a government contract. If you choose to opt out of the union, you still have to pay the dues, but you don't get any of the union "protection."

Tell me about it. Union dues have gone up from $23 a month to almost $50 a month since I hired on in 2001. And since the new company came in, the union doesn't protect anyone. The old company would work with the union, and it was worth the union dues. The new company, which has the same parent company as the old company, pretty much ignores the fact that the union is even there, and the union doesn't fight them on anything.
And it gets better. This is a military contract. The union TOLD us who to vote for in the 2004 presidential election. Mind you, every piece of equipment, other than the UH-1 Hueys, that we service? Kerry voted against the military purchasing said equipment. The only reason he didn't vote against the Hueys is because they were around before he was. There were quite a few people telling the union to go fuck themselves.

How can you say The Flintstones was the most adult cartoon before The Simpsons? How about Rocky and Bullwinkle?
