That's an interesting point chronocross. At the risk of being laughed out of the forums, I wonder what the chances are that Blizzard might consider some sort of Linux option. Probably extremely slim which is really too bad, while I'm sure it'll utilize the modern graphical capabilities of a windows system I can't imagine it would be impossible to achieve the same affects with Linux.
I look foward to Starcraft 2. I do not know if it will meet my expectations though. The videos I have seen make it look pretty standard. I have not played any of the recently released RTS games. The last RTS I played was Warcraft III. I have had Dawn of War installed on my computer for a while now, but I have yet to play it. The newer RTS's seem very impressive though and I am unsure if keeping the Starcraft 1 level of gameplay will cut it. I spent so many nights playing Starcraft back in high school.
Well, I loved the crap out of the first starcraft, but as years went by I slowly began to lose interest in the RTS genre. I wonder if Blizzard will somehow find some way to make the game interesting to me as there has yet to be a Blizzard game that I did not like.
They explained the joke in the last panel. If they hadn't, it would've been on par with PA.
Ahh, the biggest failing of most oneshot comics trying to be funny. They always have the extra panel/explanation/whatever that kills the punch and momentum.
I haven't played SC in more than six years. After hearing the newses, I might have to drag it out of the ol' closet and dust it off. Maybe we could even get some multiplayer action going.
I still play regularly, however my usual stratigy consists of massive waves of rushing pwn. I'll need to revise this for the second installment of starcraft....or just keep doing it with the new Zerg units.
So apparently Blizzard hates its fans since in order to play the campaign mode you will need to buy three separate games, one for each race. I want to say that maybe then each one will be cheaper, like $20, but I have a feeling that won't be the case.

Well, fuck that game. I was considering it. Now I'm not.
That's a bitch move, Blizzard. I was thinking of buying this game, but this is ridiculous. The most infuriating part is that they're still going to make shitloads of money despite this BS.
good thing we're not strangers to the internet and all it's offerings.
You know what, I wouldn't even pirate it. At least with piracy these days there are ways of measuring downloads over a given time period, and that while illegally downloading a game may mean a potential sale has been lost, it also shows that x number of people were interested in what they had to offer. I say, just avoid the game entirely. It's one thing to say sales were poor because piracy was rampant, but if it doesn't sell OR get pirated, well, that has to hurt a developer's ego. Go try something original and cheap like Project Aftermath instead.
The word on the street is that each race edition will be as long as the entire original Starcraft. While being a pretty odd marketing decision, I can see playing some extra Zerg missions as being totally rad, while Terran I've never been too fond of. I am going to be keeping my ear to the ground on this one. Who knows, maybe Blizzard will listen to its fanbase?
From what I've read it seems like the three separate games are actually going to be one game and two expansions. At least, that's how they're marketing it.
So you'll buy the first game, which will have one single player Terran campaign, but have multiplayer with all three races. Then there's a Zerg expansion that has a Zerg single player campaign, but also adds a bunch of new shit to multiplayer for all races. Then there's a Protoss expansion that has yet another single player campaign and adds even more stuff to everyone in multiplayer.
If you think about it, it's pretty obvious why they are doing this. First off, if they just sold the entire thing for $50, they couldn't really justify it. WoW. makes so much money, that it's not worth it for them to do a video game project that doesn't rake in a huge load. Getting $150 per player is a way to do that. Secondly, they've got a captive audience in South Korea. As long as the Koreans don't turn on them, and keep playing Starcraft 1 forever, this game is guaranteed to sell a bajillion copies over there. By doing this, they triple the size of that guaranteed sale.
To be honest, I suck at every RTS except for Multiwinia, which has its own problems. They all seem to end up as being games of who can click the fastest, and that is not me. However, the videos I've seen of Starcraft 2, and what I saw at PAX, are very impressive, and I really want to try it. I hope there's a demo.

For the tiny fact that Blizzard has banned WoW players for playing the game on Linux computers in the past, I'd say that they are nill.

Yeah, Ctrl-Alt-Delete is usually not funny, but this one was ok. Almost Penny Arcade-ish.
It's all I ever wanted and more.
And yeah that CAD comic actually does have a sort of PA feel to it. But I think its too long.

Blizzard are on to something...
