Penn and Tellers Bullshit!

edited April 2006 in Everything Else
I'm not sure if you guys have seen this show, but not only is it chock full of awesome but it also covers alot of topics that come up on the show, like how the stigma behind death was created, how people that strive to have "the best" are dumb, and many other subjects of interest. So yeah, I'd check it out.

  • Yea, I introduced them to this show years ago.. It's well one of the best shows ever ^_^
  • Is the new season starting soon? I think i remember them saying that it was starting in spring but i dont remember when. And it is indeed the best show ever.
  • im pretty sure it started last night, in fact 100% sure
  • Shit! I missed it! I have fury!
  • This is a show everyone who speaks English should watch. And if you don't speak English you should learn it or watch this show with subtitles.
  • I love this show.

My favourite one is still the bottled water episode. There are some people where I work who need to see that one...

  • I remember seeing "Penn and Teller" on the winamp online media library and thinking "oh hey! magic". I was happy to see that this non-magic show kicks ass. My favorite is the creationism epsiode and also the one on the environment/global-warming.
  • They've basically taken on the mantle that James Randi and Harry Houdini before him wore as they exposed frauds and charlatans wherever possible.
  • I started listening to this one this week on Scrym's recommendation. Does anyone know where/if I can get back-episodes? All I can find are the current week's 5 downloads.

I picked up season 3 at Best Buy about two weeks ago. I had heard things about it, but never had seen it. but It was $20, so I thought, "Why the fuck not?" and bought it.

It was more than worth it. I ended up watching the whole season in about a day. I really need to pick up the first two seasons.

  • *Comic Book Guy Voice* Uh hum...Bulls *clap* hit, thank you very much.
  • I'm catching up on season 5 and 6 right now. This show just keeps getting better.
  • I have only seen clips (and the rare full episode) that have been uploaded to YouTube, but that's enough to let me know this show is fantastic.
  • This episode is one of the funniest and best I've seen in a while.

I've found that they have used up a lot of the really cool topics in earlier seasons and now are attempting to pick lesser topics on a more hit or miss basis.
  • They pulled the latest season off of the OnDemand index on my cable. As I have no plan to actually schedule TV into my life, I'll have to ask some pirates for help. Maybe I'll visit some sort of bay? Who knows.
  • Penn had a great radio show for a while (Teller was not too radiogenic), I picked it up as a podcast. Penn was constantly pimping Bullshit but too stay on the FCC's good side he referred to it as "Bulls *clap* hit." That show was great.
  • I like the show over all, but a number of episodes (two come to mind: Gun control and the second one was the profanity episode if I recall correctly) simply reduce down to being able to be stated in the simple words of "America fuck yea!" with no real substance to them, or in the case of other episodes they will simply lie (or not actually do their research.)
In 2004 one of the most popular films was the Passion of the Christ a movie that any government ratings system would have certainly banned or altered.
Last time I checked you could get the original version of that movie in all 13 provinces and territories, all of which have an independent government rating system.
That all said, they're good guys, and they seem to be trying to bring the world, or at least the states out of the dark ages that a large number of people are trying to pull us into.

I think they meant that if the movie weren't about Christ, just on the violence alone, it would have been banned or altered. As about 80% of the movie is just torture and violence.

Sorry, let me expand on that quote.
Because of antisemitism and depiction of graphic gratuitous violence., but people decided they wanted to see it. Great!
Here's a link to that part of the episode and it runs from time 6:57 to 7:15. If that is what they ment then they worded it poorly, as the implication is that even this movie would have been altered or banned.

  • Bullshit returns on June 25! I'm so looking forward to this.
  • Great show. I just watched the circumcision episode the other night. I had no idea you could grow a new foreskin. That's just aces! I'm really interested in trying this out, but think of all the other applications. It sounds like you can grow additional skin just about anywhere: "I'll type that up for you right away, sir. Let me just roll back my fore-finger skin."

Or perhaps when wearing a rough new shirt that scrapes your sensitive nipples, you could just release the protective nipple skin. It's like being a super hero.
