Don't get ATi, you will regret it. I personally only buy Seagate drives, so I always suggest that instead of Western Digital. Ald while that case might seem cheap, there's a reason for that. Be prepared to cut your hands up something fierce.

What would you recommend, brand-wise at least, instead of ATi. I know this may sound dumb but I've honestly never built a PC before so I'm trying to learn as I go.

Um, there really is only one other choice. NVidia for the win.
If you're not in a rush and are planning on playing a lot of the new PC games, wait until the next generation of DX10 cards come out. Then you can get the current ones dirt cheap and be able to play all the new DX10 games. Of course, this would require Vista so it's up to you.
