Alternative Drivers for Printers

edited July 2007 in Technology
So I have and Epson Stylus CX 5000 and I bought alternative ink because it normally works on other printers and I have never had a problem before. However, it seem that the driver and the machine detects that it is not an Epson Ink so the program tells me to buy the Epson Ink, does anyone know about an alternative driver in this kind of cases?

  • I think the chips are hard coded to the printer so alternate drivers probably wouldn't work.
You might need to open up the old cartridge and fish out the chip then fit it into your new one. (wear gloves!!)
When I get a new printer I'm considering one of these (continuous ink system) as it feeds a constant supply of ink to the printer.
  • Thank you what a practical solution I will do it as soon as  I get back from worK :D
  • I'm guessing the detection is being done on the printer side of things (which is probably also blocking it) and is just reporting this to the computer which is blocking it. If you'd like to test this idea then try using your computer through a linux live CD. If it doesn't work then then it probably is a hardware problem. Some third party cartridges don't have chips in them and instead rely on you extracting the old one.
