Classic anime in iTunes

edited September 2007 in Everything Else
Was messing around while following the Apple live event feeds, and went to check out the iTunes store. Lo and Behold: Tezuka Productions (note need itunes for the link to work). It's listed from the main page as "Classic Anime". Currently only three are listed: Phoenix, Astro Boy and Black Jack.

Is this a sign that we might be sign Japanese releases (legally) over here in the US? Maybe Anime companies will release their series directly to iTunes and cut out the middleman.

(and if this is old news, I apologies)

  • I just checked this out. They aren't "classic" anime by any means. They are the three most recent animated series of Tezuka stuff. Granted, that doesn't mean they aren't awesome. All three of these are really good shows that everyone should probably watch. However, they aren't old. They are all very recent remakes.
  • My bad. Repeated what iTunes was calling it (although I thought it was since I saw Astro Boy. Granted the color should have been a giveaway). If these were recent remakes though, hopefully this means more "no middleman" releases.
  • Nothing on Canadian iTunes.

    Again.
  • I'm not even going to check German itunes. Although you can buy the new iPod here already, which I find strange. Also a short comment on anime dvds in stores: they are all porn.
  • Oh, snap I am getting Astroboy , and Jack Black. Also it is a great deal with Phoenix, but I am getting it in dvd (already pre -ordered) , but that is a good deal 10 dollars for the whole 13 ep.
  • Phoenix is fucking awesome. Buy it now.
  • *Sigh*

God dammit... I REALLY wish Canada would get with it.
  • I just bought some movie conversion to ipod software for $40.

Essentially, I just rip all my anime and rented movies to my itunes. Why give itunes my money for anime that I've already seen/own?

Technically I'm not supposed to rip rented movies...
  • I guess if buy a usa iTunes gift certificate you can get them all.
Sail, I know Phoenix is awesome but I rather buy it in dvd so I can get the whole awesomenes and then I would buy it in iTunes if only to support this awesome anime. Well I am off to watch Jack Black on my iPod video :P while riding the metro.

You can get videora for free and it works, I do that also with stuff that I own, but lets be real here how many of the new anime fans (ages from 12-20)  that have not listen to AWO or Geeknights would know about Tezuka?
I would buy anything that is Tezuka because, come on is Tezuka. I would even Embasador Magma! ( I have never read it but Gerald did not like that one)

Why waste money to get the anime you already own from itunes? That's why I wish itunes came with a movie ripper for free, but I guess that could cause copying issues. I don't think you should have to spend your money on a movie you already own, just to get it on your ipod.

A lot of the free rippers I've found have horrible quality. I can set the screen size, audio, quality, and a bunch of other relatively pointless but nice features on mine.
  • best one out for mac (in terms of ripping) is Handbrake. Even has iPod/iPhone & PSP (snicker) settings
  • I haven't tried Handbrake, but I really liked VisualHub.

Well, you are talking to a guy that kind of owns a nintendo and a super nintendo and still bought the super mario bross games for the Gameboy Advance, and this guy also owns the original FF VI (a.k.a III) for SNES, the anthology version for PS and the handle version for Gameboy advance, and if a new ver. is released for the DS I am pretty sure I would buy it.
Also, as I said before Tezuka stuff needs all the help it can get inside the American Fandom

WTF!? You bought one!? When free Videora iPod Converter works perfectly! And you didn't even but the official software! Quicktime Pro is official and it's cheaper!! Do your fucking homework.

I'm sorry, but that really bothers me for some reason.

Keep in mind that I bought this software over a year ago, before Videora was even out. =/
