I am simultaneously envious that my dad never did things like this for (to?) me and excited to do this to (for?) my kids.

My parents did the same thing with my sister and I but with one of those candy dispensers that costs people 25¢ to turn the knob and get the candy. Actually, each machine had three different candies you could choose from. I filled mine with Mike&Ikes, M&Ms, and tiny superballs I got from Oriental Trading Company and put it in a local hair salon. It wasn't THAT profitable, but it was profitable.
