  • The flamethrower or the Pikachu suit? :P
  • Hint: They'll be using one on the other.
  • A giant pikachu wielding a flamethrower. That's like something out of my nightmares.
  • Pikachu suit of course
  • So apparently you can just buy a flamethrower. http://throwflame.com/products/flamethrower/

    Farmers use them.
  • But upon closer inspection it turned out to be a souvenir pressed penny. Looking through the paint we deciphered which tourist attraction it had come from...

To my astonishment it was from the old World Trade Center towers.

Laura collects pressed pennies and will clean the paint off and add it to her collection.

Fun fact: In second grade I lived next to one of the few manufacturers of the San Francisco penny press machines. He had a whole craftsman's shop / mini-factory in a barn in the backyard. It was super neat to hang around there after school. I think I still might have a few pennies from discontinued machines lying around somewhere...

    More of it:

  • Thing of my day many a day ago, but still cracks me up.
  • So, reddit just banned a bunch of hate-based subs. SRS and friends strangely not included.

Certain reddit alternative sites are now totally unreachable as the mass influx of butthurt arrives on their shores.
  • And the response on reddit has been hilariously salty.
SRS and friends strangely not included.
Not that strangely - they're the reddit boogeyman, and people make some wild claims about them, but there's really not much if any evidence that they go out and harass people. People say they do, but the overwhelming majority of what hits SRS ends up being relatively untouched.
  • Not to mention the only thing SRS hates is reddit itself. No one is oppressed for being a redditor.
  • Well it wouldn't be my hill to die on, but I have seen vote totals drop precipitously after being linked there, which is fairly benign anyway. What I don't like about the SRS "network" is that it's a mindless me-too loyalty affirming nonsense party that's every bit as hate based and irrational as the posts and communities they "highlight". At least fatpeoplehate is pretty sincere.

And "coontown" is apparently still there, and not any more obscure than the fat shaming nonsense.

I don't really have a side here, but I don't think there's a lot of moral superiority to hand out in general in this scenario.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I've seen it too. Back in the day, SRS actually lived up to it's reputation - the admins gave them a pretty firm tap on the nose, and a warning, so they cleaned up their act. It's just that this was some time ago now - nowdays, you get the odd comment going down, but for the most part, it's all left alone.

Yeah, SRS is not really a nice place to be, if you want to argue, especially against the consensus opinion. But then again, what subreddit is? Try posting in /r/australia that you like the liberal party. Or post in /r/kotakuinaction with literally anything they disagree with. Shit, just the other day, KiA were ganging up on /r/planetside, and one of their mods in particular, because that mod said something they disagree with.

I'll admit, mup, between you and me, I can't really say I'd call that a positive note.

The admins have said they're banning based on behavior, rather than content, and they don't have reports of coontown going out and harassing people. Which does call into question their standards on the point.

On the other hand, if it is true, then I suppose if people are going to be racist shitgoblins, then I can't hold it against them for keeping that very much to themselves.

There's fuckin' none mate. It's a private company, doing what they have every right to do. Reddit has no obligation to give these people a platform. If the assholes don't like it, then they're perfectly free to fuck right off for whatever nasty little hellholes they'd call greener pastures.

  • It was a cancerous subreddit really, they had this "no sympathy" norm.

I don't remember exactly, but there was a post about a girl who was doing pretty OK with her weight loss and they just started laughing at her indiscriminately, they seemed like they had mental issues.
A mod had to chime in and remind people about the "no sympathy" rule, so in case someone said "well she's losing weight good for her" they would get banned.

I can't verify if it's true but if so they can fuck clean off.
  • I'm definitely not defending /r/fatpeoplehate as some upstanding place, it was a fucking cancer and I'm glad it's gone. I just think they're being pretty selective in their cancer eradication program, which is their prerogative, but still hypocritical. SRS has extremely similar policies.

And fair play to Churba about other subs being almost as bad like /r/xbox where Heaven help you if you point out some of the launch issues and still-remaining flaws with the XBOX One or even have the temerity to ask for some assistance with a problem there. There ARE no problems with the XBOX, or else.

Still, when it's about singling people out for mass abuse, even if you're not going to "their place" to do it, it can only be described as mean spirited at best. It's certainly not leaving anybody with any positive result on either side. It's not like it's even therapeutic as a venting exercise. It's just a Two Minute Hate that goes all day long, every day, that you can drop in and out of.

To be honest, if I had my way, I'd have banned SRS, and maybe one of the other more hated and pretty-much-dead other social justice subs too.

Just to watch reddit implode as all the wankers tried to decide if this was the end of the world because reddit banned their hate-subs, or a giant victory for free speech because they banned a sub they don't like.

  • This belongs in this thread, the Fail of Your Day thread, and the Steven Universe thread.

    It's too damn funny.
  • I love his last update. "Fuck you all"

    Why indeed?
  • The salt is rising to previously unknown levels. We're in uncharted territory.
