I found a library that gets it!

edited September 2007 in Technology
I'm up in Kent CT today doing some work and lunch time rolls around. I remember that there is a town library in walking distance so I walk on over and sign up for Internet use.

I get to the computer and what do I see? I see FireFox installed in all its glory!!!

Most of the libraries I go to force you to use IE and lock it down to the point where you can't even cut and paste or even use the right mouse button. You can't even spawn new windows!

I feel so good right now :)

  • Actually, my schools computer lab has Firefox (granted, it was Deepfreeze'd at 1.5.x, but still) and my Internet Developer teacher recommends using Firefox over IE.
Firefox has really gotten a big hold on people.
  • Except for me! I shall never succumb to that new tecnology! Not while I still can't download anything! =D

Actually, I dunno if I'd really like Firefox... I use my friends' firefox web browser when I'm there and it's .. I dunno. There's no difference that I can see...
  • Awesome.

I used to dump Firefox Portable on my hard drive space at school. Since the sysadmins were to lazy to install Firefox. =__= They even claimed they were working on a solution.

@Kage_rod, if you use someone else's version of Firefox you don't know what it can do and how it's set up. I mean, I can't comfortably browse the web without a minimum of 6 specific extensions. And then I have another 10+ for various tasks just to speed those things up or a bit of prettiness.
You can use Firefox without extensions, but in my opinion Firefox is made to be extended with at least a few extensions to make it your own Firefox.
  • Kage: Firefox is excellent because of it's modability. It gives you a core browser that eats less memory than IE, and you can then customize the bejesus out of it.
  • Yes, and even without customizing it, it is infinitely better with its built-in spell checking.
  • My friend has Firefox on his Flash Drive because he hates IE. It's kinda funny to watch him in software design.

I'm using Firefox right now, and I like it a bit better than Safari, and way better than IE. Maybe it's because of the spell check.
  • My library also uses firefox now when they updated all their computers and added wireless for everyone. Since everyone voted down building a new library they decided to update what they have and added a dvd rent center. All their movies they have are donated and they even added a anime section. I'm also glad they updated their reference section and books. All this after hiring a new head librarian. Hopefully a lot more libraries do this too.
  • My school's library uses Firefox at the computers you can use to search for books and stuff. But all other computers at school use IE.
  • Yeah my school has firefox. That is the only thing that we are allowed to use.
  • The library near my house uses Ubuntu so GTFO.

Man, all this talk of Ubuntu makes me wanna use it so bad...
  • I have it installed on three of my computers but I don't use it often because of photoshop and Maya.
  • I always used the pen drives when I was in school and using random computer/labs. We have one lab that had it but it was in the somewhat smelly section of campus where all those IT/CS people hung out.
